HijackThis - unable to run as administrator

My laptop crashed again a couple of days ago for the second time in about two months. I was hoping that it wasn't corrupted so thought I'd try running HijackThis just in case, then I noticed that when I right click on the icon "run as administrator" isn't showing. I'm with Vista too.

As far as I'm aware I have have to click on "run as administrator" to run HijackThis when you have Vista installed as it says: For Vista: simply, exit HijackThis, right click on the HijackThis icon, choose 'Run as administrator'. Yet I see nothing.

Do I need to edit the file where HijackThis is stored myself?

Can someone please guide me through this if so?

Thanks

Wasn't half term was last week?

Some posters add value to this forum, so grow up or take your medication.

Who would be missed the most, someone who continually helps others with their problems or a childish troll like yourself who never posts anything useful?

I have forgotten all I knew about Vista but try pressing the Shift Key and then Right Click , might bring up the option to Run As Admin

Bleedin' laptop has gone and crashed again! I tried turning it on earlier and kept getting start in safe mode/start as normal, etc but isn't coming on no matter what I do. Can't win can I! :(

I'll speak to my brother about this as he managed to get one of the IT guys where he works to sort it out last time.

I'm presently using an old computer that's quite slow at the moment; I'm trying to sort that right now. I'll be able to communicate via this if I need to

Thanks debitcardmayhem I'll try what you've suggested when I get my laptop sorted and back on again.
  • I've defragged, crap cleaned and run Microsoft Security Essentials on the computer I'm presently using and is running fairly well now.

I won’t bother my brother just yet; I think I'll wait till he next gets in touch me.

Thanks debitcardmayhem, dell.mannn and anyone else who's helped. I'll get back when I can and will let you know how I get on with the HijackThis administrator thing.

    Thanks again

No probs, it could of course be a heat problem, ie fluff etc etc or bergered fan. Try downloading a Linux Live disk eg Ubuntu/Puppy/DSL and run it from a CD/USB and see if it still crashes

    hello Donnie.

Time that you were banned, as you add absolutely nothing to this forum with your silly childish behaviour.

Why do you post on the Techie Board - you know nothing!

no, we on techie have had all enough of Donnie's abuse, we want to help and learn and people have problems with techie questions, so no, not fair on us all that Donnie can abuse people or whatever new identities he has here like DontheJuan, so no. not fair on all of us.

Please tell us all who this "we on techie" is? You are in a minority of one, now that your best mate has been banned.

You will be reported if you continue with your silly games, so grow up!

  • Lugh_C,

I see you are back, hope the above hasn't deterred you from trying to sort your problems. When you last said it has crashed again, do you get a BSOD and if so what is the error code. If no BSOD shown up that could be because you have it set up to automatically reboot on error. you might find some info by going in to control panel/administrative tools/event viewer and have look for Errors in the System folder there.
