Probably a silly question - but... how do you know how many of each item to make for a fair?

  • I've been making things for friends and family for a while now and aftr seeing some of the inspirational posters on here have decided to try and make a bit of extra money for christmas - things are tight this year and I am not getting much work at the moment so have the tme on my hands.

I unfortunately do work either a late or an early every saturday and sunday so I will need to stick to mid week opportunities of fairs etc. I am using netmums at the moment to see local 'whats on' listings for school fairs. Any ideas of where to get stalls outside fairs?

Hopefully this thread will help me with my pricing. I am planning on charging the following

sweetie bags - £1 (reindeer poop, snowballs, rudolph noses etc) I think I am going to have the widest variety of these
    sock/flannel cupcakes - £3.50
sweetie jars (spice jars with poop, snowballs etc) £1.75
Elizabeth Shaw mints - was going to sell these individually for 30p each and 4 for £1
    Reindeer Food - £1
Hot Chocolate Spoons - £2.50 (I do mine different to those shown on here so they are bit fancy!)

How does that sound? Any best sellers I'm missing here?

I havent been to a school xmas fair since I was kid - are they a bit hit or miss? will I at least make back the £15/£20 for the table?

I'm nervous - hope I'm doing the right thing - I love crafting but I don't wana be out of pocket!
I miss using my infinite coupons at Tesco!
2010 was the worst year ever :(

My kids Christmas school fete is always on a Friday after school 3.30-5.30pm and they don't charge for a table, they just ask for a donation for the raffle. I will be doing my first one next month, my other half is in the PTA and he took some of the things that I make in and they were all very interested so I am hopeful that I will sell a few things!

  • Are all the things that people sell best low prices? Just wondered as that would mean selling quite a few items to cover stall money. Does anyone sell higher priced items as well?

I suppose other than jewellry and real craftmanship items (like wood-turning/pottery that type of thing) are there any higher value items that people would spend their money on?

Hi - glad I found this thread - Hi Giggle - I have spoken to you before and have looked on your blog many times! I make similar but different stuff!!

I'm busy as now have a fair or 2 every week until 18th Dec. I should be making reindeer food but I'm on here instead. Its my night off.

I think each fair can vary so much -what sells at one doesnt at another.

We are doing the reindeer poo, reindeer food, elf poo (with the rainbow drops!) this year
But the white choc /yoghurt raisins for the snowman poo seem really expensive this year

Is what what you do for your snowman poo?
