Conservatory with plastic roof

I went to see a house yesterday which had conservatory with what looked like a plastic roof. I was nice, but I am wondering what would the noise be like when it rains? It is open plan to the living room, so one can't shut the door.
Also, how much would conservatory add to the value of the house and how much does it cost to build?

Plastic roofs on conservatories are cheaper than glass roofs. It is the budget option. Whilst they can still look nice, it doesnt have the same value as those with glass roofs.
I was doing a home visit earlier this year and we were sitting in the conservatory with a plastic roof and it was all very nice until it started rain. We had to leave the conservatory and go to another room as the noise from the roof was too much.
A cheap conservatory can cost around £5000 and a decent one of same size upto £18000. Most of the cost is in the type of glass you want and the type of roof. Plastic roof does suggest it is at the lower end.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. It is deafening in a conservatory with a plastic roof and my friend has a door betweens hers and her lounge and it still sounds like it is thundering.
Glass roof on the otherhand is just like it raining on the windows.
I cannot say a conservatory adds value, depends on how big it is.My house has new windows doors and new conservatory, but has only sold for a few thousand more than the ones on the same estate without all these improvements. It is very annoying. It just adds sales appeal.0 -

Good idea, but when conservatory is open plan to the living room, it might not be of much help!0 -

Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

My friend has a plastic roof in for many years at least 18 years. It isnt that bad when it rains its just the plastic corrigated sheets. It was cold though until he had the room lined and plastered. Glass would be a better option though than plastic.
My MIL has a very large conservatory and hers it two layers of plastic and that one is noisey and also dirt can get in between the sheets. It only nosiey when its heavy rain its not so abd when its a drizzle0 -
It is noisy when it rains and I'd be really surprised if there were no door as it's exactly like being outside when it's cold and like being in a sauna when it's hot. You have to shut the doors to stop the rest of the house being affected.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Yes, I agree. We have a conservatory and even though it is heated it's still cold in the winter and stifling in the summer and the noise is quite deafening when there's a good downpour, although when the doors are closed it's not too bad. Wish we'd had a garage conversion instead, but don't tell the OH :eek:0 -
The best glass you can get keeps the heat in during winter and the sun and UV rays out during summer. Tinted too. I have been in a few of these and they are great.
