It could be a hardware problem and not a problem with Windows.

Do you feel confident enough to open the case and unplug and replug the SATA cable for the C drive (both ends)?
Does this look like a "Ribbon" wire C drive is the HD,yes? its a slim line case cant even see the HD, only the CD/DVD drive and the power supply.

The ribbon type cable is the power.
The data (SATA) cable is usually red with black plugs on each end, just over 0.5cm wide.

I suspect it is a hardware fault rather than software but it is difficult to know. I had a similar problem with my pc feezing, but less frequently than yours. It was a poor connection on the SATA cable that caused it.

Do you have a local friendly IT geek who can help?

Ribbon flat wide usually grey cable is ATA DATA Cable .
Thin flat cable usually red or yellow is the SATA DATA cable .
Both use red yellow black black POWER connectors ATA has large white block as end connecter SATA thin black end connector .

Hi MickG. Nice to see a another from Suffolk.
I'm just down the 14 at good ole BSE.
On your poll, we have a Evesham pc. Six years and still going great, unlike the company. Looking a bit dated mind.

Hi Lost2 , I think perhaps if you start a new Thread sayng "Samsung digital cam connection problems" or such like you may have responses from folks with experience of either Cam Knowledge or Firewire this particular thread may get too unwieldy very quickly
