Putting Contract SIM into PAYG Phone

My daughter has a Blackberry Curve on contract with Vodafone, which was water damaged and deemed to be beyond economical repair. She had no insurance and thought she would buy a Vodafone PAYG Blackberry and simply insert the contract SIM card - cheaper than buying an unlocked phone. Can anyone tell me if this might cause problems, either with her contract or the actual operation of the Blackberry? Also, having been 'once bitten' she has decided to insure the new phone, but has been told this might not be possible due to her changing it unofficially from PAYG to contract. Would this be the case? - any advice gratefully received.

A contract SIM will work fine in a PAYG phone.

Rather than insuring it, I'd suggest putting the money aside each month and "self insuring" that way (after a couple of years that money will buy a new phone anyway!).
  • Yes, Mark is right. Pay monthly sim will work fine in the prepay handset. Only disadvantage is possibly having to purchase call credit at point of sale. I mean, now even argos is doing it with some payg phones.:(
