was spybot on before your problem started, or have you just installed.
backup your data, and restore to factory settings is by far the easiest method of resolving it.!!

Open Spybot
Change Mode (Top) to ADVANCED
Select TOOLS then RESIDENT

I've done all of the above thanks RiK and rebooted.
Spybot had not shown anything up on the scan.
Do I need to do anything else? What were those F2 and 02 things? The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
The file missings are probably due to a flaw in hijackthis.!!

It's only 10 days since DH wiped it and reloaded all the software, it didn't make a difference. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

you did a factory restore, and immediately afterward before loading any extra software (virus scanner, spybot etc), it took ages to boot, and internet explorer hung?!!

you did a factory restore, and immediately afterward before loading any extra software (virus scanner, spybot etc), it took ages to boot, and internet explorer hung?
No, laptop has been playing up for a few weeks, we tried running various scans to see if it had a virus. Nothing worked so DH 'wiped it and reloaded all the software' his words but he has done this several times in the past built his own pc etc so I'm sure he knew roughly what he was doing.
It can be fine for a short while and then hangs. It was fine whilst I was doing the scans but it was solely doing that.
It is loading up quicker now than it was earlier this evening. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
