The default Home Hub password is "admin" (without quotes) all in lower case

According to my ISP (Be) there's a bug in Windows 7 that sometimes causes it to drop off the network when using DHCP. I was advised to assign a static IP to the PC (via the Networking applet in the Windows 7 Control Panel and in the DHCP settings on the router).
thanks for this. i am not sure what i am doing. can someone give me an dummies guide. do i need to get into hub settings as it isn't accepting password at the moment."The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

BT hardware is somewhat proprietary in some aspects of its construction. Additionally the "Firmware" (ie the software embedded on the silicon chips inside) are known to have a number of bugs and compatibility issues. These (to the best of my knowledge) have not been completely resolved since the advent of Windows 7. There may be just such an issue with your new PC - Hence my suggestion to try out a more generic brand of Router. I would recommend Netgear.

ok, thanks for your help. it makes sense what you are saying. as i am not paying i will now wait for an engineer to call on friday and see what he says."The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
Apart from what I have already mentioned the only other thing I can think of worth trying for now is to change the channel the Home Hub is using.

update for anyone with same problem with pc or xbox: had already tried changing channel dispossessed. changed the interface in hub setting from 802.11 b/g/n to 802.11 b/g and problem appears to have been solved. don't understand why. maybe someone can explain??"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0
