What's this about?[/title]
American Airlines has just launched its winter sale with a multitude of slashed-price transatlantic seats, from London Heathrow and Manchester, for bookings made by 9 Nov.
Return journeys to New York start from £308, Boston £348, Miami £368, LA £405 plus others, including most taxes & charges, and availability is vast.
While those who remember pre-2007 sub-£200 transatlantic flights may think these sound costly, at this time of year and taking into account fuel and tax hikes in recent years, a low £300s fare is a very competitive price.

* Using these links helps the site stay ad-free and free to use, as they’re ‘affiliated links’ which invisibly take you via price comparison services like Moneysupermarket or affiliate sites, this then means if you end up getting a product this site gets revenue
You shouldn’t notice any difference, the links don’t impact the product at all and the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by the revenue. If it isn’t possible to get an affiliate link for the best product, its still listed in the same way. The following links Kayak and Travelsupermarket are identical unaffiliated links provided for the sake of transparency. Click on the following link for more details on how this site's financed.

- What dates can you travel?
Travel must be from 4 Nov - 15 Dec ‘10 or from 24 Dec ’10 - 7 Apr ‘11.
- Got a specific date & location in mind?
If you fancy going away to a certain destination on specific dates, don't bother looking at this sale direct, as the results are included in the cheap flight screenscrapers Kayak* and Travelsupermarket*.
So use those and not only will they show the sale's flights but also if any other airlines have cheap deals, just in case American Airlines is beatable. For more screenscrapers and options see the full Cheap Flights guide details.
- Just browsing for a bargain?
In this case, it's worth looking at the specific sale at American Airlines yourself for available dates and destinations, and seeing if it's worth planning your getaway around them. Then compare them to the best of the screenscrapers above.
- Pay by credit card
Remember, for safety, pay on a credit card to get extra protection. See the Section 75 guide for full info. - Also check out Virgin and BA's sales
Both BA and Virgin have also launched worldwide sales for bookings made by 9 November. Return journeys to New York are slightly more expensive at £319, but there are still bargains to be had. Offers include Miami £399 and Dubai £371, plus many more, including most taxes & charges.

Don't forget AA's and BA's flights across the Atlantic (USA) now have each other's codes and are available through each other's websites. Some internal AA flights also have BA codes making it easy to do a multi-stop trip on one itineary.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I would like to travel at the end of may, maybe a bit later, to NYC. What would anybody recommend I do??
Cheers.0 -
I also am thinking of going to NYC around 16th May 2011. Does anyone recommend what to do?0

I took advantage of an American Airlines Sale earlier on in the year.
But upon boarding the aircraft at Manchester, I discovered that it was a Boeing 757 - SINGLE-AISLE aircraft!
For me personally, it was much too cramped; the queues for the toilet (where I DID step on toes waiting!) combined with the meal trolleys blocking the aisle made for an uncomfortable experience!
I'll double-check on this next time . . .0 -
Thanks for this information. Going home for the holidays; one of the listed cities is my hometown and the dates are spot on.Listing debts to help keep my eyes on the prize
Discover - $0 (!!!) :T
AMEX - [STRIKE]$500.00[/STRIKE] $200.00 | BofA - [STRIKE]$3000.00[/STRIKE] $2000.00 | Capital One - [STRIKE]$2079.60[/STRIKE] $1745.00 | HSBC - $800.00 | Chase - $4000.00 (estimate) | Student loans (federal & private) - will likely be paying for life :mad:0 -
