Whilst creditors ask for a previous address[,] having recently moved is still a minus point

I never said it wasn't. What I said was it's not as negative as some seem to imply, (which on here seems to range from "automatic refusal - always" to "worse than going bankrupt last month.")

Why do you think they are a new driver luci?

I can't see anything about them being a new driver, did I miss it or is it something you picked up on another thread?

He requested and was offered... he needed some additional financing to cover himself on his first terms rent.

Yeah, sorry... misleading of me. I've seen a car, or three... the one I'd love is a private seller, so that one is out. But I'm seriously just looking for a run around, run into the ground. I only passed my test in April and this will be my first car of my own... so the cruddier the better, so I can clang it and not worry!

See the part in bold above.

Oh on the subject of insurance I just quoted myself for a Skoda Fabia 1.4TDi (I know, just a power drill under the bonet) which came back at #554; not bad given I'm only 23 years old and have no NCD. So yeah suppose 600 is a realistic price to budget for insurance :D

Is it really that simple that I can borrow £1200 and pay it back over a year, without having to pay anything additional?

    Thoughts?
If you can get the garage to accept the card payment then yes it is that simple!

Just taken out a credit card with Tesco on their 13 month 0% deal to pay for a trip to New Zealand next year. Put flights for £4000 on card and no interest due if paid back by Oct 2011.

I passed my test in April, so yes I am a relatively new driver. (female, 21- 22 in 11 days woop!) I used to work in insurance, so I know all the tricks for getting it cheaper, and on a 1.2L engine, group 4 or below I can get insurance for £670 top end. It's all about adding named drivers who have years of driving experience etc :)

I've been very bored at work, and have been doing lots of quotes on lots of cars, so I'm well researched in the area. I've also got good calculations for how much fuel etc will cost me. All very affordable in the first instance.

I cannot extend my OD that far, nor would I want too! I have a £300 overdraft now.. and it's for emergencies. To extend it by a further £900 (if I even could) would leave me deep in it for a considerable time, which based on the fact I now have a mortgage to pay is not a position I want to be in.

Am I right in thinking if you apply for a card, and get rejected it's a black mark against you in terms of credit? Or is it just a blip? I'm obviously not keen to apply, be rejected now only to find out that I cannot get one in future because of it.

I am going to talk to my bank... or to my Mum! She has excellent credit, so if she loves me lots, I may be able to sell her the idea, and make the payments on her behalf. Still not ideal, as I would like to build up my own credit rating... but what can you do?

Thanks for all your input guys.

RE: Overdraft. You'd be surprised - Lloyds TSB increased my Overdraft Limit from #150 to #3,000 in one fell swoop.

RE: Declined. No, it doesn't count against you in the slightest. No record of whether you were approved or declined is kept on your credit files - just the fact you applied. Too many applications in a short timeframe affects your score negatively whether you're approved or not - one application won't make a single iota difference :)

Thanks izools... I may apply for a Tesco one today then and see what happens...

I always used to think of Overdraft as free money... which to a certain extent it can be, depending on when it's paid off... but the thought of going to -£1200 for 8 weeks (the gap in between pay dates as I'm starting a new job) and then climbing to -£200.. then back down to - £1000 etc etc... Ouchies.

Obviously, if needs must and the bank agrees then it may be my only option.

Money is tough... never enough when you want it, and never ever enough when you NEED it!

Barclaycard checker said I'm 80-90% to be accepted for one of their cards... but that's 29.9% APR.. which I'm not really liking the thought of!

Holiday, sadly not for long enough! There might not be many free 0% BT deals around but if you can spend a lump sum and not pay back for 13 months other than the 3% monthly payment that seems like a good deal to me!
