He requested and was offered... he needed some additional financing to cover himself on his first terms rent.
Yeah, sorry... misleading of me. I've seen a car, or three... the one I'd love is a private seller, so that one is out. But I'm seriously just looking for a run around, run into the ground. I only passed my test in April and this will be my first car of my own... so the cruddier the better, so I can clang it and not worry!MFW 2010- £112,500 + 20% Equity Loan = £150,000 35 years

Has your brother recently moved house like you?when I know my 18 year old brother, with no credit history, no nothing got offered 3 credit cards without questions!
The councils will not update the credit reference agencies immediately, it could take several months. Even if they do the new address will still be a problem, lenders like to see stability.
I'm sure you'll find a solution.
If you are working and this is not a massive debt, then it should not be a problem.
Could either you or your partner get public transport at all for 6 months? Could you share a lift with each other? anyone else at either company?
There are lift share databases you can join to see if anyone else is going in your direction.0 -
We've looked at the options, and getting another car is the only one... I wouldn't even be considering a CC otherwise. I always swore I'd never ever have one.
The only debt we have is the mortgage. We have both been perfect in the past, no debt, no loans, no missed payments on anything... so maybe if I can sweet talk someone
Thanks guys... I'm sure one way or another I'll figure it. Other option is for OH to hurry up and p/x his car against 2 smaller cars... but that's proving harder than we thought as well!MFW 2010- £112,500 + 20% Equity Loan = £150,000 35 years

Can you not just get an extension on your overdraft. Total interest will only be about 60 or 70 quid over the year.0

You say that you've never had any credit other than your mortgage - this could also prove to be another stumbling block for you as you'll have no history of how you manage credit.
In this case, you're probably best approaching your own bank to see if they have a credit card they can offer you as they will at least have a history of how you run your current account. My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

To all those mentioning the "recently moved" argument being a reason for refusal of credit - there's a reason most credit applications request the details of any addresses you've lived in in the past X years or so.
A single recent move (alone) in the past few years does not count as a huge black mark against your credit score.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

Are you certain the insurance would only be £600? As a new driver I would expect the premium to be much, much higher than that.0

Why do you think they are a new driver luci?
I can't see anything about them being a new driver, did I miss it or is it something you picked up on another thread?0 -
Just to clear up a few things:
Whilst creditors ask for a previous address having recently moved is still a minus point - as whilst the card company can see the applicants history at the old and new address; they will calculate risk based also on stability - having recently moved is a sign of instability and even when the applicant is on the ER with a traceable history the score is still lower than someone who can say they've lived at their current address for a long time.
It is also unlikely that OP will show as being on the ER until January, as far as the Credit Reference Agencies are concerned, unless they registered during or prior to July.
I would suggest an extension to the overdraft is the best way to go. Can apply for a Tesco card and if they say no; nothing is lost and you can ask the Bank for a bigger OD.
By the way OP says passed test in April; OP is female? So insurance will be cheaper and if in late 20s or so will be about #50 a month for say a 1.4 petrol or 1.9 diesel even with no NCD.
Good luck with the Tesco card / Overdraft OP!Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
