start with the school perhaps they can give you info or maybe let you know what kind of things she may need help with, extra study etc. google the exam sometimes there are a few websites that can also give you info. though the 11+ is based on work that she has already done in school i should imagine so going over whatever work she has produced could help

This website has a good forum (well it does for our area anyway), It's split into different areas as the exams can be different depending on where you live.

  • Ive started to buy the Bond assessment books for my daughter. Though they are a bit pricey, hence why im buying one a week or buying them off ebay.

There is also the website 11plus that is also very good as well
  • You can buy practice papers at WHSmith, TBH though, you just need to get your daughter to read the question properly.

PLEASE dont make too much stress for your DD as its a difficult time for her as it is. She will either have it, or not.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Also just be careful of coaching her through just to pass the exam leaving her then struggling to keep up with the rest of the class when she has moved schools - it does happen.

If she has the ability she will pass it without help other than maybe the style of the questions etc

My mum has taught at a grammar school for MANY years, and can spot which kids have been coached through the 11+, as they often spend their entire school career near the bottom of the class, somewhat struggling, miserable, and most of them would have been much happier and done much better at a non grammar school.

So try not to put TOO much emphasis on your daughter passing. It's not the end of the world if she doesn't, and often it can be for the best.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Only a minority of children can go to Grammar school. If she is of high academic ability then the testing process will pick that up; if not, then she will probably be very happy at an alternative school, which is where most of her friends will go. Please don't try to force her through it by making her practice tests, memorise answers, and so forth. The worst possible outcome would be for her to get into Grammar school when she does not have the aptitude to keep up: people in this situation are really miserable.

I agree about not coaching but you do need to practice tests, otherwise it's terrifying when you go in and open the paper and have to try and figure out what they're asking. Are they still verbal reasoning tests nowadays?
It was a good few years ago but my mum bought me a couple of thin books from WHSmiths to practice with. They explained to you how to understand the questions and there were a timed tests you could do. My mum used to make me sit down and do them for a set time each weekend but otherwise left me to teach myself, which I think was the best way.

11+ finished 40 years ago where I grew up! It's amazing it still exists in places.
  • have brought a few books for my daughter as we were not sure what the verbal reasoning. non verbal was.

But in my case im very lucky as my daughter is very academic and wants to practise the tests (doesnt get much help from me at the moment as im a third year uni student) so enjoys doing them on her own. Wants to go to the grammar school, but is ok if she doesnt.

On the other hand i have a friend who has been "coaching" her daughter for the last two years, extra homework 3 hours a week, and still struggles in some subjects at school. And will be devastated if she doesnt go the grammar school and if she does i think will find it hard going.
