Removal of name from a joint account possible?

I was taught that it was possible to serve notice that X would no longer be responsible for debts incurred by Y. I would suggest that you get advice from CAB or a solicitor how to go about this. Then serve notice, if I am roght, on the bank to protect your own interests, as you are jointly and severally liable for any debts the ex may chhose to incur on the account, Then open a new account in your name.0

If one party to a joint account says that there is a dispute between them the bank can freeze the account. No more credits to account and no debits either UNTIL both parties agree as how to proceed.0

Oh really that sounds like a good step forward... that may force her to sign to agree to his name removal,,,, do we just call up the bank to tell them there is a dispute?MFW

No they would either need a letter or you go into the branch in person.
Make sure that any monies due to you are withdrawn before you make your dispute known.0 -
Wonderful I will give that a try... no monies at all are due to my O/H as it was solely opened for the purpose of her wages being paid into it (isn't hindsight a wonderful thing!!). Shall keep you all updated.... seems to be a gross bit of unfairness in the banking laws if you ask me....MFW
