Not sure how I could prove it, as if I got McD's cctv footage, without sound, they could argue that she may be a mate, and I am just meeting up to return the little'un after looking after her. Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay it. Though, I was seriously impressed at my 5-year-old DD's thought......stick a big bogey on the paper when I hand it in! Has anyone got a cold so I can give them a nice gooey one:p
Send them a cheque written on a bit of cardboard. Yes it is legal tender (or whatever the cheque equivalent is). There was a piece on bitterwallet about it a while ago... :p

I'm not proud of this but I have over 20 outstanding parking tickets in Edinburgh where I live, eventually after 100s of letters, sheriff officers came to my address but my gf told them i moved out, they rang my mobile and I told them not to hassle me, they never called back and that was a year ago.

What happened next was my revenge on the council for illegal tickets they gave me, the single yellow lines were not complete and by law here (and I've checked with the police) they cannot legally ticket you.

I transferred the car into my gf name 3 months ago through the dvla now she is the reg owner, I then parked on a single yellow and instead of giving me a ticket the council lifted the car as they say I'm a repeat offender, when my gf turned up to collect the car a week later with the reg doc they had to return it to her and she paid a £30 parking fine instead of £135 plus a daily charge the robbing council impose.

She had a solicitor suing the council for 1 week of earnings and hassle. The council has offered £750 compensation to her which must first in Edinburgh.

Parking attendants here make up there own rules and so many people just pay and dont complain.

Quite why you think this sorry story is relevant ot the lady's case is beyond me.

I certainly hope that no one follows your example. There are many very valid avenues for successfully appealing various tickets. Your kind of stance is likely to cause you further problems -- as it did.

    For reference>

Yellow lines are nothing to do with the Police. The specifications are defined by DfT. In Edinburgh parking enforcement is decriminalised (unlike this case) and enforced by the Council.

There is no such thing as ''Registered Owner'' of a vehicle in this Country. The 'owner' (at the time of contravention) is liable for decriminalised PCNs. Quite why you think the Sheriff's Officers have finished with you is beyond me.

The only curiousity is how a Council come to pay compensation for something that appears to have arisen because of a deception by you? Did I read that correctly? Possibly a criminal matter and a daft thing to post on a public forum.

Neither can I understand why they would waive the tow and storage charges. They need no further excuse to remove a vehicle other than the fact that it has been left parked 'in contravention'.

Maybe I've misunderstood or maybe not quite the whole story.

I suppose I can understand some of the strange responses to the original poster -- because this thread has been moved from another forum apparently.

Still, I have something of a dichotomy. It seems everyone that thought it right for you to pay (?????) also acknowledged that you were legitimately delayed. Now why can't my head quite get around that?

I suppose I can only say that I'm glad I live in my world with my faith in human nature rather than theirs!

Someone said the Council did nothing wrong. Certainly so in issuing the ECN. Yet everyone recognises that you did a valuable service to the child. The Council didn't, on initial verbal contact, but that's no surprise -- could have been the tea lady on the phone for all you know.

As Sarah said earlier, 'criminal' parking matters like this can be difficult. If the Council reject ypur appeal then your only recourse is to explain to a Magistrate. A fickle bunch, they could easily take a similar view to posters here. Then again, could be very appreciative of what happened. Purely a coin flip unfortunately. Again; since most posters here believed the OP, why would a Magistrate not?

There is an important principal here though. Some respondents mentioned that many people 'must' be trying it on (in the respondents opinion). Errr -- how was that verdict reached?? Seems like some judge others by their own standards. More importantly, why should that affect honest appellants? Again, I'm glad I live in my world, innocent until proven guilty! An analogy: There are many drug dealers in every town, city and village but not everyone is a drug dealer!!

This is one of the reasons why some members keep referring people to far superior forums. It is downright rude and pointless to be judgemental. Posters asking for help should have their info taken at face value. If anyone is concerned that they may not be telling the truth or the whole truth -- then believe me, they will ultimately pay the price and get caught out in the long run.

There is a financial risk to this but to just pay for an unintended minor crime, with clear mitigating circumstances just seems very wrong to me.

I actually fully support 'fair' parking enforcement, the intention being to penalise or, in this case fine, transgressors. Clearly NOT the case here and no fine should be imposed IMO.

    One final question to members.

Why are you here? __ to support the likes of the thread hijacker who has used 'unorthodox' and possibly illegal tactics to evade penalties
or this lady who acted as a very decent citizen and transgressed through circumstance.
