Discuss the BA Amex credit cards

I have earned 2 companion vouchers and been completely unable to use them. Firstly B.A. told me to try booking ASAP. I tried just over 11 months in advance and there was no availability for business class flights to any of the 8 destinations over a full 2 month period that I tried for. Then B.A. wanted to fly me from my local airport through London City airport, then you had to get to Heathrow on your own steam. I asked for a Heathrow flight but these weren't released yet, some 46 weeks prior to flying! Then when they were released, funnily enough there was no availability on the long haul sector. The companion voucher sounds great but in reality is very, very difficult to use. I've cancelled my card and getting an Amex card that is linked to several airlines which a friend seems to have much greater success in actually using.0

If anyone wants other tips let me know! I know the system backwards from years of travel![/QUOTE]
Hi.
I hope the offer on help is still valid and I would really appreciate some advice. I am getting cash back from my Platinum Amex and Capital One for which I spent about 150k on business expenses paying in full each month giving me roughly 1800 a year. Recently spoke to my friend and he told me to get airmiles card. Psychologically I do not feel I am getting any cash back as it used to pay next months business expenses (I know I am saving...) Maybe it is worth getting one of those "big spender" cards with 140 annual fee? My objective is to travel from London to European destinations with the family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) to explore the cities on weekends, Southern Europe on school holidays and hope to save enough points for the family trip to Buenos Aires in a year or two (although it is tempting to leave kids to grandma and !!!!!! off with my wife for few days to Florida or New York). It seems like flight availability is an issue especially during school holidays. Please enlighten me should I bother or should I just stick to Easyjet and "Cattle Class" on Ryanair?0 -

You should spend some time (perhaps a rainy day) thoroughly reading the British Airways forum on Flyertalk.
Basically you will not be getting 5 business seats to EZE during school holidays unless you sit at home and keep trying for 3 months.
If you want to go economy, then just pay for the tickets as redemptions will cost more
Availability to Europe is less of an issue but still difficult during school holidays, you need to be flexible and work out which is best for you overall.
For me I collect BA Avios with credit cards and by flying BA then redeem them on other airlines for at least double my opportunity cost.0
