Dvd-rw

I have a new DVD recorder accepting DVD-RW discs! I have been trying to download a TV programme that last 3 hours - the disc says it is 120m - is there a way I can reduce the quality maybe and get all the programme on one DVD - I know its probably a dim question with an easy answer to those that know - but I'm not very good with these things but trying to learn. thanks

Although they do say 120mins its a bit misleading as DVD are not like VHS. You are actually recording data to the disk so it will depend on the quality you record at as to how much data it can fit. You should be able to select a lower quality to fit more on the disk.
  • As above, where and how did you get the TV programme? Are you trying to copy from a Sky box or trying to burn a DVD from a programme you've downloaded?

  • Thanks for the replies, I have a sky box in back lounge and often save a programme that I want to watch later or a series for example, what I was hoping to do was to be able to save it to a DVD watch it on the DVD player in the front room - we did have a sky box in both rooms but it was a bit expensive when we only watched it occasionally, it would be nice to be able to save a film or such to a disk and watch it in another room. thanks again

Our old Philips DVD recorder (one of the original bad boys) can record anything from 1 hr to 6 hrs on a 120 minute disc. It's all down to MPEG 2 compression (the bitrate) and video resolution (full 720x576 PAL or some sort of half way house).

I found the 2.5 hour length still offered perfect quality, 3 hours dropped off a bit but was still fine. At 6 hour mode it was like LP on a VHS.
