Do you not get a breakdown of the cost of insurance,0
-
The advisers that sell you the policy also get commission for any additional extras you may purchase.
These advisers are trained to sell you everything they can. Some of these sales methods are very subtle.
The bottom line is if it is on your policy, you have agreed to it at some point, usually when the policy was initially taken out.
However, I have also heard(not so much though) of advisers of insurance companies adding further products without agreement to increase commission. This would have certainly been against the insurance company rules and against financial regulations. You have a right to have this looked in to by the insurance company.
If you feel you have been mis-sold, I would recommend you put your grievance in writing to the manager of the company and await an outcome.
I also recommend that in the future when you take out any insurance that you sit down and read the documentation front to back. It is an arduous process which nearly everyone dismisses. Don't take anyone's word for what insurance products you have purchased. Get the documents, check the documents, check you have exactly what you have asked for and that the cover is appropriate for your needs.
I hope this helps.0 -

You obviously misread... this was not a new policy, this was a new car update, which incurred a cost, this cost secretly included the extra cover , which was removed before I paid, as I questioned the price and the addition was admitted. This is a direct attempt to mis-sell extra cover.
This cover BTW was £9.50/year if I took it out with my policy in April, but had risen to £15 after 6 months, so I wouldn't have paid for it even if I had wanted it0 -
I have received a letter and a phone call, promising action within a few weeks, so should hear something next week!0
