Card Loyalty and 'prestige'

  • But will it be 'special' enough for some people to keep it? Blue offers a reasonable rate of cashback, but you're better of with Platinum if you can get it. Is a transparent card 'special' or is it just gimmicky? I think I've answered my own question there, though...

I don't like it. It was a replacement for his Blue card which had expired. He's also got a platinum one so i think he'll knock the blue one on the head. My blue one expires soon so no doubt i'll be receiving my transparent one through the post soon...

Can't say that I like it either. Someone told me 'you must have dropped it in hydrochloric acid' whereas another person said 'it looks cool'. I suppose it is quite original, but I preferred the old style one, which is the one that everyone has all over Europe.

I suppose the fact that they've gone to some trouble to change its look could mean that it's not on its way out just yet???

It is very much a gimmic just like the Mint card MC2 card shape was... as a marketing tool though I am sure it will work well like the Mint one did.

My Amex platinum has certainly got some new interest now that it has been designed on the new "shiny" design. The older dull look needed to be replaced.

Do you mind me asking which Platinum you have - the Charge card or credit card? Also, when was your card issued, approx.?

I am assuming you have the credit card and it was issued fairly recently.

My Platinum credit card was renewed end of Sep on expiry of the old boring one. It does look much better, however this has nothing to do with why I keep the account.

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

I had a transparent one through as my old white one wasn't chip and pin. But my OH, who is the second cardholder, apparently isn't being issued with a chip and pin (no idea why) so he still has the old white one which isn't due to expire for a year or so yet.

I don't like it myself, but had a shop assistant today say she did! I always have loads of comments on it actually, due to the blue holographic bit I suppose.

My parents have a Coutts account and they think the service is fantastic. Apparently that means I'm allowed an account too regardless of my own income (rather less than the limits) but haven't got round to it yet.

Given coutts charge you £60 per quarter plus 75p per transaction if you do not have an average balance of £5,000 over the year I am not sure why you would really want private banking if you not "meet the grade" so to speak.

I am sure there services are great if you have £500k of spare cash you need help dealing with every year and such but if you dont, I think you can get a better deal from a high street or internet bank instead.
