Sainsbury's Click and Collect - Vent

Click and collect - forget it!!! Ordered and paid for 2 items to pick up after 4 pm the next day from city centre store. Left work early. One had been delivered - other hadn't - had to wait 20 minutes while the staff tried to find the parcel that had been delivered but was told to ring customer services.
Rang customer services and asked for second item to be delivered to home address as courier had obviously failed in task. Toojk 25 minutes of constant repetitive discussion to get Sainsbury to see that I ntered a contract with them wherein I paid and ordered goods and they should have upheld their obligation to deliver on time.
Finall y they agreed to home delivery - but guess what... it never arrived!
Spoke to customer services and was told that it would be delivered to home address in next 24 hours. Oh and a £10 gift voucher would be sent. Customer service - my ar*e !!

Just placed an order with Boots, first time I've arranged a pick-up with them. Their policy is:
Bring the order confirmation page printed off the website, or the printed email confirmation or
Bring the order number (on a postit or something, or just remember it) and 'a suitable form of photo ID'.
I can just about see how someone who wasn't you might have the order number but not the printout, ie maybe the computer was on and they just made a note of it. If all they then needed was random ID I guess they could steal your wallet or make off with a utility bill and potentially pick up your order. Requiring photo ID makes that impossible. Presumably Boots thought about it further and considered that if someone can access your computer, navigate to an order receipt in the inbox and take the time to print it off, then that person is not likely to be anyone except you. Accordingly you can just take along the printout.
But the most important thing they do is balance the risk of something dodgy happening with the interests of the customer. The most likely explanation for someone who is you having the number but not the printout is that your printer's out of action or you can't be bothered to use it. It's up to you. You fix the printer or decide to use it or... just make a note of the number and take along photo ID.
The trouble with sainsbury's and tesco is they use a sledgehammer to crack a nut. They prevent every vaguely possible way of committing fraud, but at the same time they take away the customer's element of choice. It just seems to be the case that not everyone has a photo driving licence or likes the idea of carrying their passport around as if they were going through customs.
Quite a few stores seem to have a more reasonable policy; Boots, also John Lewis, Waitrose, M&S.0 -
the T&C state you must bring photographic id to collect an order, and lists passport and DL
