    Hi ATT,

I accept your (weak willed woman) truce!! There were doubtless a good few retorts to Gally's joke but I wasn't touching any of them with a ten foot pole...

A somewhat more sinister statistic is the one that confirms, were we to both kick it, our inheritance fund would now total just a touch over £1m. In that we've no-one to really provide for, we do need to sit down and make some decisions about where that money would go but it's not a nice thing to be thinking about at the best of times. At the moment, all the money goes to Moyra's auntie and she'll dole it out as she sees fit but we need to think about apportioning it clearly. Maybe a massive all-in jaunt to Vegas for everyone we know and £100,000 on red just for kicks!!

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Hiya Gally,

Funny as it may seem, I was talking to Moyra about volunteeering for a wee bit of foster caring. Neither of us are particularly for kids (sorry!) but a few shorter term gigs where we could give people a wee bit of a hand where it's needed appealed to me. She's not at all for the idea so I can't see me swinging your adoption either!!

    Cheers,

    Morning All,

I'm almost in the clear. It's been a stupid few weeks trying to get the new job properly off the ground whilst not letting anything drop in the old role. A day of operational analyses, catching up on meeting minutes, sorting out a dozen new contracts to fix our newest structural alteration and finalising expenses, a trip down to that England for work (next week) and another for alleged pleasure (in the middle of the month), a wee weekend jaunt to St. Andrews next weekend has seen me very nearly caught up.

Just the latest update on my objectives to clear up for tomorrow's meeting with the Chairman. We need to finally sit down and have the chat about salary, potential bonus and conditions. Happily, much of my new role is going to be concentrated on ensuring other people are doing their jobs properly.

Needless to say, Moyra has been all kinds of impressed with being neglected all week. I've been told in no uncertain terms that the laptop is banned from St. Andrews next weekend and banned when we're on a wee holiday during the October break down to Gateshead, York and Manchester.

The rains have come in a big way today after a few really nice days. I suppose we should be thankful for what we've had this week but it would have been nice if the 20+ degree days had stuck about for just a bit longer.

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Morning All,

That's the bills away for another month excluding council tax which lives in it's own wee bubble and comes off on the 8th. Looking forward to a weekend in St. Andrews (he says, praying for anything other than torrential rain and wind) and a wee jaunt down to that England to satisfy Moyra's urge to shop (big maze shopping at the Metro Centre, dinky shop shopping in York and then big maze shopping again at the Trafford Centre). I'm now in receipt of all but one of her birthday presents and I've planned the treasure hunt.

Even managed to get a soppy 30 word message into her card (puppies birthday card, item #1) and I now just need to get 15 "snow" strips and 15 sappy strips in from the Calvin and Hobbes collection which will double as labels and guides to the next present! What can possibly go wrong!?!

    Cheers,

    Billy

    Morning All,

A bit of a frenzied couple of weeks but things are definitely calming down. With work in the main and Moyra's birthday plans to a slightly lesser extent, I've barely had time to think!

However, work has gotten into gear (including a potential new Consultancy gig in Saudi) and a lot has gone from me to others in the Company. Moyra's birthday stuff has all arrived and, for the most part, been wrapped (I'd love to say expertly wrapped but covered is as far as my level of ability goes in that arena!). The last three things (fancy gloves (#28), Californication Series 1-3 (#18) and a recipe book (#12) arrived this morning so it was cut pretty fine in the end. This is the current state of play for the treasure hunt that she's got tomorrow. Each package comes with a calvin and hobbes cartoon strip and, on the back of each, there's a reason for picking the theme of the present(s) and a clue guiding her to the location of the next one. It will hopefully be well worth the effort tomorrow afternoon.

    Hope everyone is well.

  • Hi Billy,

You have put in lots of effort into making your OH's birthday a happy event.

You have stacked the presents on the floor, I guess, only for photo purposes. Presentation Is Half the Battle - it would look nice if neatly arranged on a table or so. Just my tuppence worth.

    Best Regards.

    Thanks US,

They were indeed stacked for photo purposes alone. They're all going into hiding for a treasure hunt tomorrow evening (although she's guessed that's what's going on) and her family are coming over to surprise her (although she's gotten that as well). If nothing else, she doesn't know about any of her presents. I'm sure it will all be fun come what may.

    Cheers,

    Morning All,

Well, the treasure hunt idea didn't go down at all well this morning. All Moyra had was a card with a promise of stuff to happen later. Apparently her second year class were equally unimpressed so I'm in 21 bad books at present! She's due home in the next 10 minutes so I need to finish off item #2 (swimming in blue icing rubber duck topped fairy cakes - pic later). http://i826.photobucket.com/albums/zz190/wynnvegas/672b486c.jpg

Good news on the money front. Moyra's tax cheques have now started to roll in (£300 so far with about the same to come). If she gets the same adjustment to her tax code, things could well get better in the coming weeks and months than I'd planned - shouldn't be an issue hitting the £10k rainy day fund at this rate now unless she goes mental at the shops when we're down having our wee jaunt in that england. Also got confirmation that we're due £180 in the next quidco payment run so that's a winner as well!

Hope everyone is grand and dandy.

    Cheers,

    Billy

Hi Billy, well I hope by now you are firmly back in Moyra's good books and that the treasure hunt is/was a roaring success (though I've got scarey mental images of your house full of ducks :o) Not to mention your reputation being restored with all the second years in the morning!

Your cakes looked fab, well done you, I'm assuming you did them all on your ownsome?

Glad to hear that you're well on your way to handing stuff over at work, that will certainly help you get stuck into all the new stuff your have in your sights (oops, drat, I've just made a gun pun and we know what you're like with weaponry :rotfl:)

Do tell us about the Saudi thing, sounds fab. I normally score an overseas trip for work but sadly not so this year

I know I normally tease you when the T word is mentioned but in all seriousness I'm really pleased with the results you and M have had with the tax man. My own little saga is drawing to a close and I finally feel more in control of it. I'm pathetically excited for this month's pay day as it will mean I can pay them off in full for one particular tax year.

Now off to look at car insurance re-newal quotes, just arranged the renewal tax disc today (what a great service the on-line ordering is), also need to organise the MOT, all my car stuff happens in November so an expensive month

    Regards

    Hi ATT,

The treasure hunt was a roaring success. It did take nearly three hours to get all the way through though!! Delighted with all her presents but not feeling brilliant, Moyra has gone off to bed. I did the cakes this afternoon so everything was fresh.

The handing stuff over project is definitely getting there. May not be complete until the end of the year but we'll get there - hopefully without anyone needing shot!! Not really sure about the Saudi gig yet. I'll find out specifics later in the month and will duly report back.

I'm beginning to wonder just how far wrong the taxman has gotten it in the last few years with us. We're probably at £2,000 and still counting upwards. Glad your own tax debacle is levelling out. With you on the car costs. We've had Moyra's tax, service, mot and some optional new tyres in the last couple of months. Despite the tax bill, I'm more than happy with the company car! Got the AA membership for £30 or thereabouts after quidco as Moyra was adamant that she needs home start this coming year.

    Cheers,

    Billy
