Here is a nice recipe to try.
Self saucing choc pudding
Sauce
1½ cups boiling water
1½ cups brown sugar
3 D/spoons cococa powder
Boil together for a few minutes and keep warm.
Batter
¼ cup butter
¾ cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup flour
3 t/spoons baking powder
½t/spoon salt
1½ D/spoons cocoa powder
¾ cup milk
½ t/spoon vanilla
1. Beat butter and sugar till creamy.
2. Add well-beaten egg. Mix well.
3. Sift dry ingredients and fold into first mixture – alternatively with the milk.
4. Add vanilla. Mix.
5. Pour into large, deep, buttered oven dish.
6. Pour warm sauce over batter.
7. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in medium oven (170 - 180ºC) till done.
8. Sauce forms in bottom and pudding rises to top.
9. Very nice with ice cream.0 -
Well, it says the prep time is only a couple of mins so it can't be that difficult.
I'm going to have a go at this tomorrow when I get some Green and Black's cocoa powder.
I will let you know how I get on.
If anyone else decided to have a go at this please post and let us know what it was like.
As we are all having to cut back on certain things that aren't essential ie chocolate sauce, this is a good way of saving a bit of cash as you will probably have most of the ingredients in the cupboard anyway.

I'm making a choc chip cake and fancy making a chocolate sauce to go with it however I don't have any cream I only have condensed and evaporated milk, could I add these to the melted chocolate instead or will it not work?
I also have milk, eggs etc if there's another way to make chocolate sauce.
Thanks everyone :beer:Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

I made yummy choc sauce yesterday to go with pancakes and it was dead easy. I just melted a spoonful of baking marg in a saucepan, added a good glug of golden syrup and some cocoa powder. I made 2 types actually. One with the marg I used more cocoa powder and it ended up similar to a dark choc spread. I did another , runnier one, by leaving out the marg and just adding a splash of water. Dead easy, but these are more of a dark choc sauce, rather than milk choc, so maybe if you add a bit of your evaporated milk instead of the water?
Or just use some condensed milk heated up with cocoa powder.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

cant see why you couldnt make it with either of these as have seen tv chefs make choc sauce with cream and chocolate0

If you've got cocoa powder you could make a sauce more like this: http://myplasticfreelife.com/2008/12/homemade-chocolate-syrup-delicious/
Otherwise I'd use anything that is like milk with extra fat, which is kind of what cream is anywayI think that condensed and evaporated milk have sugar added, don't they? so check the labels and adjust your recipe accordingly. If all else fails just melted chocolate would be yummy...

Thanks everyone, the cake is a bit of a disaster so a decent sauce is needed to cover it upCredit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

I should think evaporated milk would work if you have real chocolate - warm it up gently with the chocolate in it and stir lots - us the microwave if you feel confident, or a pot if not. I would do the same with single cream for a delicious sauce.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

After umming and ahhing that's what I went for, used a ban marie and melted the chocolate, added the evaporated milk and a little cocoa powder to thicken it up a little, poured it over the cake and it is scruuuuummmmeeee!
