Ex Next employee- Next high street often wouldn't accept outlet returns. This wasn't to be difficult, it was due to the item being cleared off the High street systems at that point. They couldn't access old stock past a set date, so couldn't return it. Outlets on the other hand would have a stocklist dating back far longer, and could return. May be the same with M&S.

    That's interesting, Lirin.

Whenever I've bought anything from a Next Outlet, I've asked if I can return to any high street Next and always been told 'yes'.

This happens in outfit. Wallis is located there. I bought an item from Wallis and thought I could return it to outfit Wallis No.

What you can do is Contact the outlet M&S store explain, and request a refund upon the return of the items by post... At that price it's worth it.

    Hope this helps you.

I've been in the M&S at the outlet in York, and I'm quite sure that it states in the store that they need to be returned to the outlet. I remember buying a per una top which I had to try on as it was too far to return it...

This is completely normal and more than they HAVE to offer, so I think they're being quite generous. It's up to you if you choose not to shop there again, but personally I quite like M&S.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Depends on the age of the stock- most outlet stock is 6 months old, and would still show on HS systems, but we did have quite a bit that would be years old at times....

We were told you could return in high street, more often than not the customer would come back as High street would have refused a return- I'd phoned High street myself a couple of times and it seemed their policies differed from ours.

Eventually near the end of my time with them, we were given the High-High, Outlet-Outlet only rules. That may differ again now- it's over two years since I worked with them.
  • I bought a jumper from M&S during their one day sale. I returned to the store within 28 days to exchange it for a smaller size, they refused. I wrote a letter in to complain and they replied and appologised offering to send me a goodwill gesture voucher in the post.

Am I entitled to ask for proper compemsation?

What reason did they give you for refusing the refund?

What did the letter you received from them say?

    'Proper compensation'? :rotfl:

What do you think the goodwill gesture is?
How much would you think is an appropriate amount to compensate you?

If I were you, I'd edit your post before you get showered with opinions on whether you are 'entitled to ask for proper compensation'.
I think you've been watching too many adverts.

Yes. Get onto Trading Standards and the police. They will go round their pad and close them down, throw the staff in gaol for the weekend as a goodwill gesture. they will then empty the tills and distribute this to those wailing at the doors.

Any monies left over will be redirected to your goodself, if you pm me your account details. For security I and my friends in the Amry in Nigeria only require £700 via Western Union transfer.
  • Has anyone else had a bad experience with M&S Technology guarantees?

I had reason to contact M&S Technology service about a pair of damaged Sony 3D glasses recently and was surprised to discover that my guarantee is operated by Homeserve ! I have been told by M&S that it was their business decision to appoint Homeserve to operate certain parts of their business on their behalf but they do not inform their customers of this fact

Homeserve have refused to replace the glasses and I have been advised by M&S to seek legal advice . Very concerned now about the usefulness of the remainder of my guarantee especially the 5 years for the Sony TV I bought last year.

As will be seen on another forum, Homeserve do not inspire much confidence in their customer service and I certainly wouldn`t have bought any M&S technology products if I had known then what I know now.

Please start your own thread rather than resurrecting one that is over a year old, people will uneccessarily waste their time reading all the posts before yours, especially as your question is a completely different issue.

There are answers that can be given to you, but I for one am not going to do it until you have your own thread.

It is the same company not a separate company they confirmed this to us themselves, it is listed on their Store Finder on the M&S website

I have been in this situation with an item I bought from Next outlet and they quite happily exchanged it a the local store.

It is a lesson learned and won't be repeated by shopping with them again.

I see you have decided on the answers already
the fact is the outlet stores are set apart as a different store
    else why call them outlets?
you assumed you could return to any M&S
no doubt you could hae cleared that up at the tills and made an educated choice of purchase
