Foreign Currency Checker?

  • I am with Alliance and Leicester and they do charge 1.5% when buying currency. My previous bank Lloyds did as well.
  • If your debit card charges, and I assume we are talking about switch/maestro here why not just go to the atm first and use cash? I appreciate if you are changing a lot you may need a few visits. First I've heard about banks charging for this mind you. I'm with RBS and have used them before at Travelex without getting stung.
  • Alliance and Leicester do not charge if you use your debit card to pay for currency at the Post Office, but will charge if used elsewhere. If you use cash to pay for your currency in Travelex you get a poorer exchange rate and they charge commission compared to ordering it online and presenting your card for payment when you pick up the currency. I'm surprised that RBS do not charge for using the debit card to pay for currency.

I think there is some confusion here.
I`m saying if you go to this site https://www.travelex.co.uk and buy €`s at today`s rate of 1.4154 you have to pay for them there and then with a debit card and pick them up at your chosen airport on the day of travel.
The bank will not charge you because it`s just the same as buying anything else online from cd`s to clothes.
In fact the bank may not even know what you are buying.
Travelex checks to make sure you have the cleared funds in the account and it goes through straight away.
