Hi there,
We're having problems with our internet connection (not only on this computer), and as this PC is not running fantastically i wanted to rule out a virus etc on here before i go to my ISP.
I have ran a full Avast scan (nothing found), i have ran CCleaner, and have done a full scan with Malware Bytes (nothing found).
Could someone please look at this Hijack This log please? There must be a reason why my PC is running soooooo slowly (sometimes i think it is Avast?), and i wonder whether our internet problems are linked.

you need alienrik to look at that log, i know i going to be stating the obvious here but you have dumped you temp files lately and you have done a full disc defrag lately as well? also with regard to your internet have you looked at your line stats in your router and you haven't said who your provider is btw?0
-
Hi Basil,
Thanks for your reply. I think CCleaner should have cleaned all the temp files (?), but if not please let me know how i can do this. I haven't done a defrag lately tbh, but there isn't much installed on here since i reinstalled OS earlier this year - its a fairly old PC (about 5yrs). Will try a defrag if it will help?
We are on TalkTalk and recently switched to wireless. We have a Huawei HG521 and have a laptop, the Wii, this PC (via a wireless dongle as it doesn't have inbuilt wi-fi) and 2 android phones connected to it. Connection via all of them is awful. Am sure i can access stats somehow but its all gobbledygook to me, will see if i can find them. Which stats will help figure out the problem?

just seen it is talk talk two words traffic management.
read
http://www.talktalk.co.uk/legal/tiscali-product/traffic-management-policy/
advice run speed check
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html
check it against router stats of the line then you know being limited
two choices ring them up and moan to lift it or change to a better isp if it was me i would change isp.
better ones out there imho
1.upto 20mb
02 if got an 02 phone uses be* network but cheaper and also cheaper if have there phone. all first 3 months free
20gb per month if on 02 £8
unlimted £12 if on 02
2. upto 20mb
sky if got sky tv can get free (2gb allowance) otherwise unlimited £7.50 on top
3. upto 8mb
post office offer good deals as well
£15.95 for 5gb limit
£20.95 unlimited
but think you would be better on an llu provider
local loop unbundled provider where people like sky and 02 have the own equipment installed in the bt exchanges and atm in the main is faster.
look here to see what is your exchange just type in where you are
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search0 -
I can't access router settings via browser right now for some reason.
Speed test results - Speed down 3.5mbps, Speed up 0.5mbps. Yesterday it took us over an hour to download a 104mb file!
Agreed, talktalk probably isn't the best option for us. Thats something i'll have to deal with after Christmas, but until then having a stable broadband connection isn't much to ask for! We've been with them for about 5 years, and its never been this bad. It also doesn't explain the problems we're having with PC - am hoping alienrik can give me some advice re: Hijack This log.
Thanks again Basil for your help.0 -
hmm you say you recently switched to wifi have you tried changing the wifi channel it maybe that someone near you is one the same channel which may not be helping i would suggest looking to change the channel also try running a defrag it will help the machine itself a bit but tbh does sound like your isp tbh you really need to check out those router stats0
-
you tried the old 192.168.0.1 in your ie url bar?0
-
think i have found issue in the talktalk forum and it appears maybe your router have a read.
http://talktalkmembers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=493790 -
right have found another thread saying the wireless is very poor and info in thread how to access router
http://talktalkmembers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=518460 -
Can't access http://192.168.1.1/. Was able to access it yesterday from laptop so not sure whats happening there. How do i change wifi channels? Is that via these settings?
Just in the process of a defrag.0 -
a defrag won't speed up an internet connection, and rarely makes the slightest bit of difference to a slow pc.
if the pc is slow generally, post your installed ram, commit charge and peak commit from task manager
test wired to rule out wireless issues.
If it's happening on multiple pc's, it's unlikely to be pc related.

note autoruns works the opposite way around to hijackthis, hj= you tick the ones to be deleted, autoruns=you untick the ones you want to disable.
If anything stops working, simply put the ticks back in in autoruns, and reboot.!!
