Can I just say be careful if you do have an interview with this person that it doesn't end up "under caution"

Someone stole some rubbish from a hired skip that had a bagful of my deceased mother's stuff in it (With her name and address). The bag was dumped at a beauty spot and my daughter and I who now own her house were interviewed under caution by environmental health with a view to being prosecuted for flytipping. (It was really scary).

Luckily we were able to prove our case..

Which is why the OP should have no further contact with the council. He cannot say anything at all that will help himself. The best thing is not to speak to them at all.
  • im reporting back to tell you all what happened with the council. firstly i made sure there was a witness with me. when he arrived at my house, i couldn't believe that his employers sent him on his own knowing that this is a rough neighbourhood, he was only a lad of about 21 at the most and very nice, not the arrogant sort that we've all come to expect. all he did was produce said offending piece of paper wrote down that i recycled responsibly and asked me to sign the statement. then told me to please be more careful as there were identity thieves around. so i worried for no reason. he was also in a council van and produced identification so i didnt doubt that he was anything else but a council worker.

Why on earth would you want to sign a statement? What purpose has it served? I can't believe you wasted your time.
  • Did you read the paper before you signed or did you take his word for it? Sorry to seem paranoid but I don't really trust anyone from the council.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

It would be interesting to see if you receive something through the post from the council now that you've signed a statement.

As always Sarah speaks alot of sense.

They only want to speak to you so you can incriminate yourself.

This is an American presentation but has many good points for us.
