Debenhams return

I bought a T-shirt online for £7.50, however it is too large so I wish to return it for a refund.

I went into store, and they told me they can only exchange it as it has been discounted over 50%. There is no mention of this policy on the delivery note returns section, what can I do? I don't fancy sending it back, would much rather return in store.

    Return to store

You can exchange or refund your online order at any UK Debenhams store. Unfortunately, we cannot offer return to store in our international stores including Republic of Ireland branches.

To return to store simply present your goods and despatch note at any service centre and one of our advisors will be happy to process your exchange or refund.

Refunds will be processed to the original payment card, if you do not have the original payment card with you, the advisor will offer you an exchange or a refund on to a Debenhams giftcard.

We regret that we cannot offer return to store services on products purchased on the following Debenhams Partnerships websites:
    Debenhams Kitchen Appliances
    Debenhams Electricals
    Debenhams Personalised Cards
    Debenhams Flowers
    Debenhams Designer Flowers
    Debenhams Personalised Art
    Debenhams Made to Measure Curtains
    Debenhams Tailored Shirts
    Debenhams Entertainment
  • Yes, I have read that and my product doesn't fall under any of those categories. I'm asking what do I do now, as if I try again no doubt they will say the same thing so how do I respond?

This has been their policy for some years now. There are posters telling you at the tills and in my debenhams they tell you when you buy something with a 70% discount that you cannot get a refund. Did you pay with a debehams card as you used to get a refund for all levels of discount with that .

I understand this for in store purchases, but this is online and I don't remember seeing anything on the website (nor can I find anything now). I probably wouldn't have bought it if I had known.

When you first took it back did you show them proof of how much you spent?

I would return to the store and speak to the manager, if you did have the proof I'm sure they will refund you what you paid.
  • I had this problem when I bought something in store once and didn't know this was their policy. They said there were signs up at all registers. There wasn't one where I bought mine and when they realised that they refunded me (and quickly put a sign up). I am sure they will refund if you speak to a manager as it does not say on returns policy for online. I am just about to return something I bought online also with same discount so will see how I go.

If you bought it online you are entitled to a full refund as long as its returned in 7 working days from delivery and you tell them you are cancelling the order under the DSR

Out of those times its down to there own goodwill policy
