If you want to call me 'grumpy' or anything else so be it.

But all Haloween means to me, is a time to beware of kids who think they have license to abuse people who don't give in to their 'blackmail'. No doubt they'll be plenty of buses tomorrow that'll be smeared with eggs that have been thrown at them.

Retailers see it as another opportunity to make money, but where did this 'celebration' come from. I suspect it's an American import - entering in to our culture via TV!?

You should live in a block of flats - my evening has been very quiet. Not one person has pressed the door buzzer yet this evening :D

Personally, I think the whole "trick or treat" thing isn't right anyway, for two reasons. Firstly I don't think children should go knocking on peoples' doors begging. And secondly, you teach kids not to take sweets from strangers, then what are they encouraged to do on 31st October?!!

Would you believe that I was asked for ID to buy eggs in my local greengrocer today. Honestly, you couldn't make it up. I don't even get asked for ID to buy alcohol anymore. I refused, she sold me them anyway and we had a joke about it - apparently they got a "threatening" visit from the police the day before asking them to do this.

Perhaps I'm just a grumpy, boring person, but I'd ban anything related to Halloween if I got my way.
  • It's from All Hallow's Eve (tomorrow is All Saints Day) was a pre-reformation way to plague Catholics.

Was also a Pagan festival to celebrate the successful harvest and to honour the recently deceased :)

After disappointing a 2ft cuddly looking devil and 6 zombies, we've given up answering the door... although the lights and TV are a give away we are ignoring them:rotfl:i'd guess we've had about 10 knocks from groups of 5+... no sweets in here though... fruit perhaps?

Agree - If people have haloween decorations up and pumpkins in the window then thats one thing but if they havent then its not right. My dad got so wound up with it last year he borrowed a set of my (slim) younger brothers speedos and put them on and sat in the lounge with his dressing gown.

Door goes - quick as a flash he whips of the dressing gown and opens the door in the worlds smallest and tightest speedos shouting ' come in children - you can play with my puppies!!!'

Police were called............ but in fairness confirmed he could say and dress as he chose in his own house. This year he is going to dress as a french maid and has set up a video cam to record the looks on the little darlings faces. We will watch them all at xmas.

You should give them joke sweets, they look like ordinary sweets but they taste of eggs. They won't be back!

if you search the freebie forum, you can get numerous free graize boxes which contain nuts and dried fruit which is more healthy anyway, just so you know for next year :D

either that or stock up on those little matchbox sized sun maid raisin boxes
