Touchpad irritation/SONY laptop-Vista

I may have asked this before. If I have I apologise. In my bookmarks I could only find a bit of a forum from another site on the web and the advice did not work on this laptop.
The cursor jumps around when I am typing and the words can appear in different places to that intended. It's really annoying apart from being time wasting. Can anyone help with this?
PS I did do a search of this forum but was unable to find the button to click.

You probably need to hunt in Control Panel -> Mouse for an option in one of the tabs that says something about the TouchPad, maybe turning off the Tap to Click option (or similar wording - it depends on the laptop and operating system).

Thank you John. Yes, it does depend on the laptop which is why the advice given in another forum to someone with a different laptop was of no use to me. I think I will wade through the SONY instruction book - that alone is not easy.
There is nothing at all in Control panel.0
