You only need an internet connection when you are getting or returning work, it just needs a running PC to work the rest of the time. You can set when Boinc connects to the internet, you can allow access all the time, set it to connect only at a certain time etc.

Yes, Seti along with WCG and dozens of others runs on the Boinc platform. Some of the projects also make use of good graphics cards to compute much faster (not currently WCG)

I already belong to a team and have a set of WCG badges. Silver is running a cpu on a project for 45 days, Gold 90, Ruby 180, Emerald a year and Sapphire 2 years.
