Does anyone have any experience or advice on fax marketing or direct mail?
I hate fax marketing with a passion. As I have a real fax machine, it uses my paper and ink to get what's effectively junk mail!

Plus I'd say fewer and fewer of us have faxes.

Totally agree with the above people, all fax marketing does is annoy people. I got rid of my fax machine because we had too many junk faxes coming though and since we used our phone line to receive them, it tied up our business lines. It cost us a fortune in ink and paper, plus I had a bad view of the company because creating so much paper waste is not exactly environmentally friendly.

The other thing to consider is that you'll have to check the numbers you want to call with the FPS (fax preference service) as you're legally obligated not to fax any number which has registered with them.

Ironically, after we registered with the FPS the only people who ignored the regulations were the Police, who kept sending us spam about their stolen goods auctions!

  • some good opinions on fax marketing there guys.Thanks.

Most of you hate it because of it wasting ink, wasting paper and jamming up the phone lines and being a general nuisance.

Which I agree with but I bet you still read it though didn't you? And that's the whole point who reads junk mail nowadays not many? I don't often read junk that comes my way in the post, via email or falls out of my paper but I read junk text messages and faxes because they are under used marketing methods and my natural human curiosity gets the better of me.

If you read an annoying fax message and it did happen to offer something unique or very good then you would be by and large glad you had been contacted by the said company. That is why people still get junk because people still open it!

To be honest I've never seen anyone reading them, looking at them and thinking 'not again' yes, but not actually reading them, let alone contacting them.
Any company sending them is just associating with junk mail, spam and the like, so they are not doing themselves any favours.
I'd like to see any figures of business actually generated from those faxes, that would make them profitable.
    I doubt much.
  • TBH in general I don't think there is one smoking gun method in marketing that actually works! Rather trying out all the various methods until you find a combination of methods that work. Sometimes these combinations can work in tandem.

as tf said - quick scan, register the fact that it is junk, paper recycling bin.

should I ever need a debt collection agency I would most definitely NOT wish to use one which ignores the fact that we are registered with the Fax Preference Service and continues to spam us!

however, so memorable is the stuff coming from this crowd that I can't remember their name ...
