The "Get a free £5 voucher to spend in store at Debenhams (no min. spend) plus 15% off online." as featured in this week's MSE email.
I tried to use my voucher at Debenhams in Bristol yesterday and they advised me that they are no longer accepting the vouchers as too many people have already used them! I am now complaining to Debenhams directly but just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem??
I used mine sucessfully in the same store on the same day. I guess I was there at - nope, looking at my reciept, I was there at exactly 12:30, up in the kitchen bit.0 -

Assistant accepted the voucher but didn't look happy about it and had a good read of my voucher (probably looking for min spend or exclusions). My husband also used his voucher, later on in the afternoon, on the first floor in the men's clothing dept.
I find that the service and helpfulness of the Bristol staff really varies depending on the dept. (I've had trouble in the past returning items bought online to the children's dept whereas I have had no trouble with, for example, returning things to the Home dept).
Its really unfair of them to refuse vouchers, many people will have made special journeys to use it.
Hah, we were within feet of each other! Wild!
Yeah, I said in the grabbit thread, they didn't look best pleased when I tried to buy a pyrex jug for £4, but I ended up getting a pestle and mortar worth £20 too.0 -
Maybe it was a particular department in that store that decided they were running out of the £5ish things. Worth reporting them though. SAs making up their own rules are part of the reason why other SAs who merely uphold company policies can get so much flack.0

Perhaps what people should consider is try phoning head office and ask what the T's & C's of this voucher is before using this in store, or even better, email them.
If you email them you could print out the reply and then show it to the shop assistant you pass the voucher to. That way they can't refuse it [hopefully].0 -
The T&Cs are on page 2 of the voucher.
Yesterday when I was in there the girl in front of me used a £5 voucher to pay for item 1. She then had several other items and wanted to pay with them all separately, so she could use other £5 vouchers.
The SA refused and said the T&Cs say only one per customer. She had the check to argue with him and say she'd done it at other departments that day (she did have several Debenhams bags).
The SA was just applying the T&Cs. I thought it was cheeky of the girl to try and argue. She should have just gone elsewhere and paid for her other goods.
She backed down when the SA rung the bell to call the manager.
If customers didn't take the pee when using these vouchers, it would make life a lot easier for all of us.“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.”
