It may be a mistake on their behalf , the first thing you do when anyone demands money from you is ask them to prove it , send the prove it letter by registered post keep a copy and keep proof of postage , do not sign the letter print your name , download post office proof of delivery and signature , keep everything safe .GRADUATED FIRST CLASS WITH HONORS FROM THE SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS RECOMENDED READ IF BY RUDYARD KIPLING0

DWP debts are never statute barred.
Ask them for details about the debt and dont pay it until they can prove it.
They can deduct the payment from any benefits you receive so dont ignore it.
If the prove you owe it, try your best to pay it then its not hanging over you day in, day out.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

You will note that i put....McKneff wonders why people post such utter rubbish, putting the OP into a sense of relief which is shortlived.
Dont post if you are not 100% sure of your facts. As far as i know, if you havent acknowledged this debt in the last 6 years and there is no CCJ, the debt will be statute barred, so you will not have to pay it.
Have you sent any payment, or admitted to owning this debt at all within the last 6 years?.

 Not at all true.
DWP debts certainly be statute barred.
But I think it's getting mixed up/misunderstood what the term "statute barred" actually means.
It simply means that action through the courts is barred. As such, DWP debts can be "statute barred".
When a debt is statute barred, what other means that don't involve the courts may be taken to recover it is a different matter, and varies with the debt.
As in this example, it can be recovered from future benefit entitlement.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
