So, equipment-wise, could you clarify -

Virgin Cable Box (HD) feeding TV via HDMI cable - is there anything else connected to the TV? Conventional aerial? DVD player?
  • I've seen mucho posts on the ManU match and glitching screen ref Virgin Media Box's tonight !

The only thing is the Virgin Box HD box on TV.

I will just say this if i have to reboot my Virgin HD Box the Black is true Black(back ground) but then when the box kicks in it goes like a Fog over the Black but we have had Virgin to look at box and they say its not the box so i dont know what it is and yes i have tried many HDMI Cables and its still the same.

Check your TVs brightness controls, Auto will vary the level of the backlight dependent on the picture content, sometimes if the set has an ambient light sensor this can get confuse in a low light environment with rapidly varying light levels on the TV.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I have set the Brightness at 67 out of 100 but if i lower that anymore it looks to Dark.

Its a Philips 26PFL7532D/05 if that helps.

He was talking about philips 'ambilight'

It changes brightness intensity depending on whats onscreen which is probebly whats causing your problem

Could also be an 'eco' setting or similar

Would help if we knew the exact model of tv
