Selling on ebay

  • Buyers will want to know postage costs before bidding, otherwise by bidding they will be agreeing to pay an unknown amount. You need to either work out postage costs or estimate and cover the difference yourself.

When I was selling a duvet cover ages ago I was surprised to find that it was actually more than 1kg so would have to go Standard Parcels (£4.41). Does this mean if this weighs more the buyer will have an additional £1.41 on top of their winning bid?
    Tip: Weigh item before listing.
  • weigh item and adjust accordingly
    looks too high for that
prob like Large Letter 1st for that price

Thanks everyone for your posts. What a response!!!

jasmineswhiskers - I'm really shocked that the trousers are only matalan!! I bought them ages ago in charity shop as they kind of reminded me of Next styling and saw what I thought was a posh name and kind of assumed it was a fancy make.

I meant to go to the post office last week but just didnt get a moment to do it. I will definitely do it tommorrow am though now. Obviously the items are all washed/cleaned. I never thought to mention smoke/pet free home though but will now.

Thank you Crowqueen for your massive response! So useful, ive taken notes as these are all mistakes I make every time I sell stuff on ebay. Its actually me that felt a bit put out by someones charge on postage and packaging, I paid for an item and the person packaged it in recycled packaging and when I emailed them their reply (somehow) made me feel bad. I will relist all the cd's individually now.

I have noted all the other comments am going to work on them now.

I'm trying to edit now and for one of the items (storage boxes) ebay wont allow me too. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

You already have a bid on the item. You can add to it though IIRC, so just add a line as to what the dimensions are and what will fit in them and that will be OK.

But that would mean I am unlikely to reach a decent price because I havent had the chance to edit in all the advice that I have been given on here.

Some opportunist on here has seen something they like and put a bid on it to make sure I cant reach the best price by reaching all my potential bidders.

That's the problem - people spot something that is unlikely to get many bids (e.g. a title with a spelling mistake), meaning some people and go for it and get a bargain.

You can however cancel the bid and pull the auction altogether if there is still a significant time left on the auction (more than 12 hours I think) to go.

In fairness, I think OP is genuinely asking for advice and help, not just advertising.

  • I really am just asking for advice, definitely not advertsing. I will remove the link as I have had loads of amazing advice.

    Thanks everyone
