Hi

I currently have a 2G phone, and I want to upgrade via Mobiles.co.uk to a 3G phone. I have read things where if I don't upgrade through Orange I cannot use 3G, can anyone confirm what the situation is as I don't feel Orange or Mobiles.co.uk support understood what I was getting at?

Thanks

to use 3g you need a 3g SIM and handset so in a sense you need to upgrade to get 3g, unless you can get a replacement 3g sim and source a 3g phone from some where

Will Mobiles.co.uk supply this in the upgrade? (I would be signing a new 24 month contract)

as long as you choose a 3g handset you will - the sim i'm not 100% sure of - it should come in the box so be a 3g one but if they get their stock separately they may give you a 2g one, should be simple enough to ring back mobile.co.uk/orange and request a 3g sim

When you upgrade they supply you with a new sim card (a 3g card in this case) and move your number on to it (as long as it is an upgrade and not a new contract? If it's a new contract with the same network they won't move your old number on to it).
  • It's worth noting that most mobile networks will replace your SIM card free of charge if you ask in one of their stores or on the phone to customer services. Most networks only issue 3G SIM cards now a days, so if you don't have one they're usually happy to replace it for you (after all, if you can use the 3G network it can lead to extra income for them).
If they put up a fight (which I doubt they will, it's an every day thing for them) just tell them your phone keeps telling you to "Insert SIM Card" or similar and if they ask to see your phone tell them it's fine just now and that you need to take your SIM out your phone frequently and wipe it down which makes it work for a while, but it never lasts.
