Help, lost pressure on my boiler

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody could help, I've got a Alpha 280 boiler ( was told this is now renamed a Baxi 105 but not sure how true this is), anyway my partner put the kitchen radiator on the other night it had not been used for some time and am assuming that this is what has made the difference.

This morning the boiler will not work, its a combi boiler type and is still giving hot water but not heating and the pressure is way below the green bar. So far I have tried bleeding the radiator in question and then switching the black valve underneath the boiler to put pressure back in? and still no joy, could anybody give any advice as I really cannot afford a plumber or boiler repairs at this time. I am a complete novice though so please be gentle lol. If I've missed anything, need to take pics of anything etc to help please let me know, I know !!!!!! all about boilers so don't know what information is needed.

Its not working on heating because there is insufficient pressure.

You will probably find another isolating valve upstream of the fill valve in your boiler which you will need to open before water will flow.

Top it up to between 1 and 1½ bar when cold.

    Cheers

No no thats the expansion vessel. You need what is called the filling loop. Have you got user instructions handy?

I have got absolutely nothing for it mate, was there when I brought the house, might be able to find some online though although it looks pretty old its the size of R2D2 lol, I've tried turning the black tap under the boiler that has a braided hose connected to it. After bleeding the radiator it did gain pressure and made a lot of noise and started losing it again and just dropped back off, also a bit of a hissing like slight bit of air escaping or something. I'm starting to get the feeling that its not going to be something simple :-(

you are lloking for a filling loop like this

    http://www.screwfix.com/prods/13806/Plumbing/Boilers-and-Accessories/Combi-Straight-Filling-Loop?cm_mmc=GoogleBase-_-Datafeed-_-Plumbing-_-Combi%20Straight%20Filling%20Loop

normally under the boiler between 2 pipes, open the valve until the pressure goes up

Thanksk to browntoa. Read them carefully. Follow instructions for putting poressure back on the system. Then post back here. If the bleed valve on the radiator is open then close it before you start repressurising.

    Cheers

found the instructions for it here

Thanks matey, had a read through it and all it says is to refer to the front panel which I have done and makes no sense as it mentions a connecting loop, and then turning the tap which I've done I think the connecting loop is already connected though :-s

On my baxi, underneith it is 2 black nobs. Turn one anti clockwisu until its open then turn the other slowly anticlockwise to let the pressure build up between 1 and 1.5 bar. Then tighten both back up, if you let the pressure out your radiators it will drop all the pressure. Hope it helps, im not a plumber but thats what i did to mine when it happened to me and it works fine now. Touch wood!
