Mobile broadband deals...
Options
I'm moving into a flat which I don't think I'll be able to justify getting fixed line broadband in due to cost + minimum term contracts - so I'm looking for a mobile broadband deal.
Don't mind a minimum term contract with this because it's obviously portable - I'll need internet access all year round anyway.
Given it's a replacement for a fixed line (which I KNOW is a terrible idea - I used to work in customer service for a large mobile operator and had to deal with the aftermath of people doing this unaware) I'll need plenty of data allowance OR a network that'll give warning when you reach your limit and don't just start charging per MB/GB
I'm currently a T-Mobile customer for my phone, so if there's existing customer deals around then I want to know about them.
Failing that - best MBB deals around? Contract as short term as possible but preferably not at a consequence of a high monthly cost.

Check the coverage first, no point signing up and finding the signal is poor

Then workout how much data you'll need.
It sounds like T-Mobile or 3 maybe the best, the coverage will be the same since they share 3G network, T-Mobile don't charge for going over the GB limit just reduce your speed & 3 tend to be cheaper but charge extra.
And lastly, think twice again about the landline0 -

Thanks - I'll definitely check out coverage before committing.
Landline is a no-go - connection fee because it's been disconnected for a while plus the fact I'm only renting for 6 months and if I move out after that I'd need to pay termination charges to both BT and the ISP whereas the MBB could just go with me.0 -
T-mobile have always seemed to have the best data network to me as o2 got overloaded by iphones etc.
How them joining networks with orange effects this i am unsure. I do know they used to have an addon to the standard mobile sim package that let you use something like 12 gigs a month instead of the usual 1-2gigs. They also have a hard limit so if you go over you dont get charged £100s like most other networks seem to.
If were in your situation I would speak to them, get a mobile contract that covered my minutes + data and gave me a smartphone that allowed tethering to use as a computer modem. Kill 2 birds with one bill etc, if you dont use over 1gig you could even be naught and use a standard contract.
Tmobile resellers have plenty of £15 a month phone deals with a free smartphone and data allowance.0 -

The T-Mobile / Orange setup is that they can use each others 2G networks with 3G planned sometime in the future.
If T Mobile coverage is good in your area they would be my first choice, think they do a 10GB broadband deal, you my get a good deal if you're already with them and you tread hard.0 -
T-Mobile's coverage checker says there is NO mobile broadband coverage! (but there is 3G coverage - so I assume it means no HSDPA)
I find that hard to believe since it's just outside Glasgow City Centre - but hey ho.0 -
Decided to go for 3's 15gb "MiFi" package - £17 a month with £80 quidco (which has tracked already) - so just under £14 a month effective cost.
Saves messing with the crappy software for USB modems :j0 -

Why are you going with 3, T-Mobile and 3 are partners in there 3G Network, so if T-Mobiles coverage is no good for you then 3 won't be either, they're the same network.0 -
3 have seperate 3G masts to T-Mobile (maybe they do/did share in some areas, but not everywhere) - and their coverage checker says there is excellent coverage at my postcode area.0
