Dreampods/sleeping bags for babies

I am interested in the dreampods from Mamas and Papas. Am I right in thinking that this is the only bedding required, along with a bottom sheet?
I am wondering if anyone uses them and if they are as good as they sound? Don't like the idea of baby kicking sheets off during the night and then being cold.
Is the 1 tog OK for summer and the 2.5 tog for all other times?

I use them, they are fantastic as moo has a tendency to kick her blankets over her head. I have a dream pod and a grobag, both do the job brilliantly, am using a 2.5 tog one at mo but used a 1 tog over the summer. In true MSE style, buy them from TKmax for £9-£12 instead of John Lewis £32 :-) they have exactly the same style

Thank youThey do sound a really good idea.
Without meaning to sound thick, how many would I need with a newborn? Do I need to use a fresh one each night?:o:o:o

My baby loves her sleeping bag. She kicks blankets off and I always worry if she gets cold in the night. Yes 2.5 tog can be used for most of the year. My daughter is wearing a longsleeve bodysuit as well but I think it depends on the room temperature. To start with I would check in the evening to see if she is comfortable.0

I was resistant to these with DD1 as I thought people have coped with blankets for years, why would we need these new, gimmicky, sleeping bags etc. DD1 slept through the night from birth, then when she was about 4-5 months old she started waking herself up by kicking the covers over her face, well I quickly searched out some of the baby sleeping bags and they are brilliant!! You only need a bottom sheet, then put baby in the bag. We have about 3 in each size/ tog, and they did DD1 and are now used for DD2. Mostly they are supermarket versions which were on sale for £6 but we have a couple of grobag ones, not much difference IMO except much pricier obv!
I find that you can put them in them for a few nights, but as both DD's have a tendancy to be sick or dribble milk on them then obviously I put them in the wash, so the usual rule of 1 on, one drying and one in the wash is a good rule of thumb!0 -
I used grobags with ds1 and now with ds2, they are a godsend because they are both wigglers who kick sheets off.
I had two of the same size and tog, one to wear and one to wash.0 -
another vote for them here! I used Grobags with both DD's and swear by them. I have only 1 in the small size, not sure how I managed - assume I just washed in the morning and had dry by bedtime again
will need to have a think before this one arrives!! I then have 2 in the next 2 sizes- I used them right up until DD's were 3 - I kept them in their cot that long - bad mummy!!
Think they are one of the best things out! Off to TK Maxx to find another cheapie I think
I would 2nd the long sleeve vest thing too.DD1 - May 02 8lbs 6oz
DD2 - June 05 10lbs 6oz
DD3 - 24th Jan 11 7lbs 9oz

We've used them with ours from very small babies up until 3 years old. We generally had 3 in the appropriate size - one to wear, one clean and for backup, and usually one in the wash. Not used ours yet as baby isn't here yet but I've got 2, one from M&S in the sale which was about £9 and is really lovely and one from Ikea who have a bit of a selection which was about £8 I think, not gone mad buying them just in case baby doesn't like them. I suppose my advice is shop around and a friend told me get the ones which zip up on the side if you can so the top of the zip can't/doesn't rub the babies face.:staradmin0

I never recommend them for really new borns as they can be tiny - if they have poppers under the arms the baby should be around 8lbs and 10lbs if no poppers as the shoulders are too big for them.
I swaddled my son for the first 6 weeks then when put him into a sleeping bag - but he was 9lb 7oz when he was born a smaller baby may need to wait longer
Taken from the grobag website
Our 0-6 months Grobag Baby Sleep Bag can be used for a full-term, 8lb 8oz (4kg) baby from birth. However, if your baby weighs less than 8lb 8oz (4kg) at birth, we recommend you wait a short time, until your baby grows larger. For the first few weeks and for babies under 8lb 8oz (4kg), we recommend the Grobag Swaddle as a safe and easy alternative for your baby. Our 0-6 month size Grobag includes under-arm poppers to reduce the size of the armholes for babies up to 10lbs (4.5kg).
They are a god send tho and great for night feeding as it keeps them warm as well and you can just lay them back0 -
They are fab! Primark sell them too though, much cheaper than the baby shop prices.Mummy to
