Nationwide to make use of card reader mandatory for online access

Just seen while logging into my Nationwide account a message that from Dec 2010, the use of card reader to login will be phased in. The blurb says that initially one will be able to log in as now but it will then become mandatory to use the card reader. The move is touted to improve security and also also make it more convenient as one would need to remember just customer number and PIN. They forget to mention the inconvenience of carrying around the debit card and card reader . So much for online banking. Seems they are going out of their way to lose customers...I will be among the first!
