Hello everyone!
OK I have a sky+ box and its not working and I'm out of contract. Now, if I phone sky they will only tell me that I have to fork out £199 for a new sky+ box. I have an old ordinary sky box and was wondering whether I could put my sky card (i am currently subscribing to their basic packs but I'm not in contract) into my old sky box and will it still work?
Also, is the current sky card in sync with the sky+ box? or can I just put the card in any working sky box?
Many thanks for any replies.

if you are still paying for a subscription then you are still in contract, albeit you can leave at any time as your minimum time has passed..
so ring them up and ask to be put threw to cancellations/retentions and then tell them you would like to cancel, they will asky why. tell them your box is broke and so theres no point in you paying for something you cant use.
they may say they can send an engineer for £60 but say you cant afford it as its too near xmas so you would just cancel. they will then ask you if you would like to stay if the engineer was free..
they will then send you an engineer free, who will most likely replace your box for you , free. and your sorted....0 -
Thanks for the reply and I have tried all of that but they nearly cancelled my subscription and were quite rude.
Thanks for the reply but any other suggestions?0 -
Sky charge around £65 for a service call out, where do you get the idea they want to charge you £199 from?
If you wanted you could upgrade to a Sky+HD box for free by doing a self install, you would have to commit to the HD pack @£10 for 12 months though. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

it takes 30 days to cancel your subscription as you have to give them notice. are you saying you went threw to retentions and gave notice and the 30 days was nearly up??
the above route has worked every time ive or people i know have used it. it has also been recomemended on here many of times. *sure even martin covered it at somepoint)
i would give them a call back and hopefully speak to someone else..
make sure you be put threw to retentions..0 -
Thanks for the replies and I was put through to retentions as the lady told me that I had to pay for a new sky+ box at £199 as the box was faulty and if the engineer could not fix the box then I would have to pay this price i.e there was no guarantee that the engineer could fix the box. Then I said I would like to cancel then, as I have been with sky a long time and didn't expect this from sky, and the lady was rude and said ok I will cancel the account for you now. I then panicked and changed my mind.
This still leaves me with the same question, can I put my current card into any sky box? As I have seen cheap sky + boxes in cash generator for £25.
Many thanks0 -
yes, you can put your card into a new box, you'll have to phone sky to "pair" the card with the box.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

amersall - I didn't understand what you meant - sorry.
Anyway, thanks for the reply and 'Databaseerror' is it necessary to pair the card with the new box? can't I just put the card in?
Many thanks.0 -
