Have you thought about buying a used one? they have some on ebay and not bad priced either, from people who have upgraded to sky + hd.
Maybe someone who knows what the problem is with yours may come on and help you more.0 -

The full reset (the one that wipes the memory) worked on ours for about a year and then it completely broke. So it is well worth trying!
After faffing around with the sky people who wanted £65 for a callout, I rang the cancellations line (Note: OH is the actual 'client' so I couldn't actually cancel!). I explained that we couldn't afford the callout fee or a new box so would have to cancel and just watch our freeview Tv instead. Within 5 mins I was offered either a free engineers visit or a new Sky+HD box(without having to upgrade to sky HD).
I took the box.
Bear in mind that I had already done everything that an engineer would do, and had told them so.
Good Luck0 -
Thanks for all your replies and sorry i have not replied sooner.
Anyway, I have tried everything sky have logged that I wanted to cancel already, so i can't ring them again.
Anyway, my question is still the same - can I put my current card in a second hand sky+ box?
I know databaseerror stated that I would have to "pair" the card with the box - but is this necessary?
Many thanks.0 -
hi thanks for your reply, sorry to repeat myself. but can i buy the sky+ box for £25 in cash generator and then put my card in the box? is it necassary to pair the card with the box?0

Thanks for the reply, I don't have movies or sports channels it's just the basic packs that I have. But I need to enable the record function? This is getting confusing.
I thought it would be a simple job of putting my current card into the new sky+ box? or is this not so?0 -
If you cancel Sky then you won't be able to record or view anything previously recorded on your box. Or one that you acquire.
Why not get a Sky+HD box as previously suggested? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Another quick point, although I have a Sky HD box now (but without having sky HD package) it means that all the anytime listings are on HD channels and therefore utterly useless.
If you put your existing card into a different box, you just need to ring sky to get them to make it work (my brother did this when dad gave him his old box).0
