How long before survey gets done?
Nuttyneddy
We accepted an offer on our house on 9th October and we are still waiting for the buyer's surveyor to come round.
How long does it usually take for a surveyor to be instructed? Our buyer is buying as a BTL and is taking out a mortgage.
TIA.

We LTB'd our house and bought another so two mortgage applications in a fortnight. In both cases it was no more than a week.0

I had a lot of to-ing and fro-ing with my mortgage application because they kept losing the payment for my valuation (they insisted on it being paid for by cheque. they didn't receive (or lost) the cheque. they deigned to accept payment by debit card but not over the phone - only if I filled out and signed the application form and faxed it back. they initially gave the wrong fax number so had to re-fax it, etc). When they eventually acknowledged that they had received payment it took them 1 day to instruct the surveyor and he went out the next day but in all it took just over 2 weeks to get the survey done.
Add in the fact that your buyer might have taken a bit of time to put the mortgage application in and there's your 20 days so it isn't necessarily anything sinister just yet. I would think now is probably a good time to be starting chasing though as any longer and the excuses would start sounding hollow...0 -
Mine was done within a week.0

My son applied for a mortgage today (Friday) and the survey is next Tuesday. I must add though that when we've bought houses before it has never been that quick. We had the estate agent on to us frequently asking when we were having a survey done and I remember saying we had paid for it two weeks earlier and it still took another week. There's no harm in asking, it's always better to check up on things rather than thinking that no news is good news.0

Is the chain complete? I'd not get a survey done until a chain was complete...

There is no chain to speak of, just our buyer and the people we're buying from (who have already bought another house). Our survey is done on the place we are buying so just waiting on our buyers' survey (and all the searches and to-ing and fro-ing of solicitors questions I guess!)
I will chase EA on Monday to see where we are at - my job involves chivvying people up so it's frustrating not to be able to be similarly efficient at this
EA has spoken to their mortgage broker, so I know something is happening (I just want it to be quicker :rotfl:) 0 -
If it's any consolation, we've been waiting 7 weeks for our buyer to have a survey done! :mad:0

Ack - that must be frustrating!
Survey was done last week, hope yours soon follows.0 -
My partner received an offer on the same week and it was done one week later. Same with our purchase. My buyers (when I sold my flat) took 4 weeks but this was the lenders fault and not theirs. I would look to chase it up this week and make sure the application has been completed and ask someone to chase the lender.0

Took about 7 or 8 days for mine to be done.0
