hi, your wisdom much appreciated!
asking this question as on behalf of elderly relative who loves sky+ but needs to cut costs. they have a sky box marked "sky+HD". however they never use the HD channels. in fact when i asked them about it they didn't even know they existed. (their tv's old and when i finally found an hd sports channel i couldn't see any difference in picture from teh regular sports channel!) as far as i can see they appear to be paying a tenner every month extra on top of their regular package for HD. can they cut this and still watch regular sky and use sky + as normal on their box.??

Yup, on a non-hd telly cancel away. If you can't see the difference, just look for the difference in your bill instead!0

yes they can. I have the Sky+HD box, but dont have the HD channels, just means i cannot access the HD channles but can watch everything else., get them to down grade, wil save them £10 per month0

You can cut the £10 after your contract ends, and you will still get some HD channels.
BBC, ITV, channel 4 and Luxe, maybe more.0 -
you can get rid of it as long as the 12 month agreement is over, will still be used as a sky+ and as others have said you would still recieve the BBC HD. ITV HD, ITV 2 HD, Channel 4 and channel 5 in HD and various others.Cambridgeshire Based Photographer

If the contract is still within the 12 months they can refuse to turn them off, but if you explain that there are money problems they should reduce the bill. I called them about a month ago to tell them I needed to cut my package down (I'd only had it in for 6 months) and they agreed to knock my bill down from £40 a month to £19 a month without actually cutting my channels off!I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.0

ITV2 HD is only available with the HD pack, the free ones are BBC, ITV HD, 4HD, 5HD and luxeHD.
They would need an HD capable TV and be connected using an HDMI cable.====0 -
Are you sure that they're actually paying the extra for HD? The presence of a Sky+ HD box does not mean that they have an HD sub-all the boxes supplied now are HD ready, in the hope of enticing more and more people to upgrade to HD. Check the bill.No free lunch, and no free laptop
