    Hi all

I've bought some bargainous jeans (£1 for Monsoon!) on ebay recently which turned up today - only problem is they're to long.

Into the wardrobe they went where there's an ever growing pile of fab clothes that just need a little something doing to them.

I'd love to learn how to do stuff like this! How would I go about finding a class? I've tried the local college but they don't do any classes like this. Don't have my mom around anymore to teach me - anyone want to adopt me? :rotfl:

Why don't you put your request on your local freecycle? Or you could check if there is a Transition Town movement near you, they often have skill-share workshops. Or join a LETS scheme (Local Exchange and Trading Scheme) or a Timebank and swap skills with someone else?

    Good luck with your search!

I use 'wonder web' to take up jeans...it's the iron on stuff and it's easy and really works....ok so it's not as cheap as sewing but it is so so easy.

Thanks for the replies. I joined justfortheloveofit.org a few weeks ago and have just checked on there but there's no one in my area that can help me :(

Kippers I've used wonderweb in the past but find that after a few washes it comes loose, also some of the things I need to mend/alter can't be done with wonder web.

I'll ask around to see if I can find someone to help me. Thanks again

Try asking in your nearest fabric store; they may well know if there are sewing classes in your area. You could also find out if your local college has evening classes in sewing.

I'm in the same position as you Claire, I do basic sewing, but would love to learn to do it properly. I searched around on the internet and eventually found a local group that met together to sew, but they didn't teach you how to do it. I went anyway with a friend and the lovely ladies there knew exactly what courses were on in the area, I'd never have found them otherwise as it seems to be all word of mouth.

Another options may be, are there any adult community learning classes run by the council? In our area these start in Sept, they usually are in local schools or community centres in the evening. Aug time there is usually a leaflet in the library of what classes they will be offering.

Your library may be a good place to check anyway as ours has a notice board advertising alot of local groups that meet up or see if they have any good sewing books.

Good luck in finding something x

Hi I too have been looking for classes to learn how to sew properly. I have just bought a sewing machine and would dearly love to learn how to make myself some nice clothes but really don't know where to look. I live in N/Ireland. I will keep on looking though:)

Your local council website should list the adult education classes in your area.
