Consultation and Job roles

Hi All,
Im not sure if this is the correct forum to be posting in but I couldnt see any others that this could be posted under...
Im currently in the consultation period at work due to a restructure, however my role already exists in the new structure so I am "safe" from redundancy.
However, one of the managers within the team wants to spread my role's responsibilities among the other members of the team, essentially taking those specific responsibilities away from me and diluting my role.
I've been doing this role (extremely well I may add, we have literally smashed all our targets) for the last 12 months and feel extremely let down by this.
I've contacted our employee rep and Im going to talk to senior management about it too, in the meantime I was hoping someone may have some insights if they can actually do this? Or anyones thoughts on the matter?
Thanks guys.

Just becuase your role exists doesn't necessary mean you're safe - how many people carry out that role ? I could work as a shelf stacker for Tesco, but that doesn't mean I'm never going to get made redundant. And as you suggest could happen here, a restructure for business reasons could alter the job description of the role .....0

One person carries out the role in the team - me, its a fairly specialised role.
The role itself hasn't changed, neither has the description or responsibilities.
Its almost like others take turns to be in this role on a rotating basis?0 -
They can restructure how they like.
Consultation is a two way procees it is there for you to make a case that they don't restructure you out of the struture or make any suggestions that reduce or eliminate the need for redundancies.
You can request meetings with whoever you think has influence or decision making powers that need to here your case.
Failure to allow you to eangage in meaningfull consultation would be grounds for a grievence.
you make two points in your posts. However, one of the managers within the team wants to spread my role's responsibilities among the other members of the team, essentially taking those specific responsibilities away from me and diluting my role.

I think they have a good case for spreading the knowledge and getting cover should you unable to do the role, either through holiday, sickness, death or just leaving.
I would think carefully before you don't support this proposed change.0 -
Thanks Getmore4less, I appreciate your reply and see your points. I have to add though that even though I'm more than happy to expand the teams knowledge and skill set as it seems Ill be essentially responsible for this now (and not diluting my role but giving me more of a supervisor role), the other team members have (in discussion regarding the topic) said that they have no desire to take on the extra responsibilities (one is part time 4 days a week, the other four are graduates that only started in the last few months and feel they couldn't handle them on top of what they are doing at the moment).
My worry is that we have built this team up so far and things are going great, but if someone with no desire to do the role is forced to do it then productivity and quality will surely drop?
Im guessing that at this point its down to the others to express their concerns with taking on the extra responsibilities? A couple of them I feel may be able to handle it but it would mean a lot of hard work and extra work on their part...not a bad thing really
So perspective has changed quite a lot but still concerns exist..0
