For xmas how much to spend on a 4 year old

Hi

I was wondering how much everybody would spend or has spent on Christams Present for a four year old boy.
In the past I think that we have gone over the top and I was to be sensible this year.

    Hey Ho!
My dd is five and I go over the top every year. Last year I spent in excess of £300- granted one of the things is going to last for a very long time (new bed) but I just can't help myself. This year its going to be totaly different. I have explained that I just don't have the money. She is fine with that, and hasn't asked for anything that is too expensive. By looking at this site I have saved loads and managed to get quite a few prssie that are reasonably priced. So, this year I have promised myself not to spend over £50, I just hope I can stick to it:rolleyes:
  • In the past I've have spent about £75 each on my girls. This year I've got some more cash so I will be spending about £100 which IMO is more than enough;)

Instead of thinking about the money so much can't you just pick out four presents (for eg) it might not appear that much but when all the other presents are added onto the pile they get more than enough. :D and if you feel like you haven't spent enough then put the remainder of the money into an account :D

    at the replies!!

I spend £200 on ALL my presents!! I don;t spend more than £20 on any one person. OK, I don;t have kids, but I do buy for friends' kids.

£300 on a small child is unbelieveable! What is it teaching them about the value of money? I'm honestly shocked.

For my 9 and 7 year old boys, their main present is either £50 each or £100 if they want a joint present, then some smaller presents.
Here I go again on my own....
  • for years i spent £50 on each child for xmas until they became teenagers and I increased it to £150 each but its getting harder as their friends gets laptops and mega pressies but I feel proud of my kids as they would say so and so are really spoilt, they got this and that for xmas and my kids are always grateful for what they get.

I would think that, at age 4 then you could get a lot of quite 'big' presents cheaply enough to spend as little as you have available. Woolies and Morrisons do imitation versions of all the big games (Bucarroo etc) for less than a fiver; you can get huge art compendiums really cheaply - don't stress about it but concentrate on making the whole day as much fun as possible..
