Pizzle have you thought of posting on the dfw board, http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=76 to see if we can help in any way. Sounds like you're under quite a bit of strain, there are different things you can look at re debt repayment, you just need the right support and advice.

This is my view but if it is for a short period for long term gain then I have no problem with people reducing their hours as in the long run they should benefit everyone else as well. The problem is is that you get accustomed to the money you are on via benefits and then are unable to get a job that pays as much and thus refuse to come of benefits....which I think you would agree is not the point of benefits.

If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

iv been on entitledto and it did help. In the long run i dont see anyway i can improve my work, get any extra qualifications to get a better paying job, reduce by debts and improve my life. People on here have made it very clear that there is no help or understanding so thanks alot to all of you for all your great advice! i just hope you dont take this attitude to everyone coming on here for help because you have made me feel worse than i did before so thankyou so much i really appreciate it. Congratulations for being so condescending and arrogant.

if you would like some more information fine. Im currently in finacial dire straits and have numerous debts and im currently looking into declairing myself bankrupt. My partner and i have more outgoings a month than incoming and struggle to pay the rent each month. If i reduce my hours, yes my income will go down but i would do a college course that would mean i could apply for better paying jobs!

I have done an open university course already in my spare time but working full time and having a 3 yr old i struggled to get all the work done, yes im sure others found it easy to complete them but i didn't.
the truth is slowly coming out, sounds to me like you want to get yourself on benefits so that you can get your rent/council tax everything else paid for by the rest of us
by the way just because youve paidinto the system for years it doesnt mean you can get it all back with interest willy nilly.
Benefits are there for those who need them not those who want them because theyre in debt
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

Yes i want to sit back on my fat !!!! while everyone else pays to me to live happily! I dont know how i can make it any clearer i DONT want to leave work, i WANT to apply for better jobs, i WANT to improve my career and actually put something back into this country. I DONT want others to pay for my drugs or alcohol like most people do. All i wanted was for some advice on any help out there for "benefits" to help me go back to college and try to sort my finances out which in turn will help my depression etc. I give up on all of you, so much for being a helpful forum, you guys might as well put a gun to my head for all the help youv given me and for making me feel like my life is !!!!. So thankyou.

I suggest you stop tarring everyone with the same brush on this forum. There have been a few helpful suggestons, namely to look at the website you were given and post a statment of affairs on the Debt Free Wannabee Board.

I think the other thing that people were highlighting, was that how would you juggle part time work with college timewise? If you had problems with an OU course before with regards to deadlines etc, why not try a course with them again and go part time. That way it is manageable.
    Best Regards

Im not angry im more upset about the fact that i came on here for some help and advice and all i go (apart from a few) were insulting comments basically saying that i want to be a bum while everyone else pays for me life style. This is not the case at all, its just a thought that im having about reducing my hours and before doing anything stupid i wanted some help. Thanks to the genuine replies but this forum isn't helpful at all, very dissappointed.

You perhaps should have browsed this board a little more before posting if you were after fluffy answers. This is the emplyment board, not benefits, ergo you may not get a sympathetic response here.

I changed my working hours about 15 months ago to half what they were. I have diabetic neuropathy and related complications. I have had a long hard slog in the last 12 months to persuade my employer that the working pattern I originally asked for would enable me to be at work every day, whereas their decision 15 months ago left me still taking time off as I couldn't work an 8 hour day. Anyway, I digress.

A few weeks after I changed to part-time working, my husband was put on short-time at work, so we had to cope with losing pretty much half of my salary and a good £250-£300 per month of his salary. We had no recourse to benefits to fall back on, so we changed our lifestyle and we got through it (and thanked god that he was on short-time and not redundant, like some of his colleagues).

You claim to be too ill to work full-time but you want to do a college course. I don't believe you. A friend of mine has back problems (far worse than yours) and she maintains full-time work as a social worker. Reading between the lines, I think you want to have more time at home with your child and to do some sort of course to improve your prospects. Well, good for you, but unfortunately, we now have a Tory govt and they're not going to fund your lifestyle choice. To be honest, I have to say I'm glad about that. I don't have kids and am sick of funding the lifestyle choices of people too selfish to consider for one moment that maybe they should take financial responsibility for their own decisions.

If you want to work part-time. more power to you, apply for child tax credits and whatever else you can get while it's still there to be got, but don't come to an employment forum looking for help to do it.
