I can't see a medical reason there?
That was my thoughts on this, if there was a medical condition then surely they couldn't work go into full time education while working part time (I'd say working while studying is more stressful than simply working full time) and surely the better job/life available after the course would require full time hours?0 -
Yes i do because thing is the first time iv used this site and didn't know which would be the best place for it. Would you like me to remove one?!?! My medical reason is a slipped disc and depression. Im not choosing to take benefits im dont know alot about it so iv posted this to ask for some advice. I have tried applying for higher paid jobs but i dont seem to get anywhere because i lack qualifications....hence wanting to go back to college!
You are contradicting yourself - if you have a slipped disc you are either able to work or you are not, there is no middle ground. If you have depression you may want to reduce your workload, but you would not then start a college course to increase it again!
You mentioned on your other thread that your GP will sign you off for six months. On the information given, they will not.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Have you investigated the Open University or part time courses at a local college of further education?0

I have also spent years paying for others to sit on their backsides drinking etc and doing nothing. Its your choice not to accept help that is there for you. Im not saying this is what im doing im just asking a simple question to try to see what ALL the choices are out there. I would like to reduce my hours because of medical reasons i just dont feel that i can work full time hours at the moment. Id appreciate people to reply with genuine HELPFUL replies rather that insulting ones that really aren't needed.
It wasn't an insulting reply, it was a valid point well put and echoes my own views. In my opinion the welfare state exists to support people who are in dire straits and have absolutely no way of earning enough to maintain even their most basic needs. It is not there to help people afford the lifestyle they prefer for whatever reasons.0 -

Yes they will as my gp has already discussed this with me. Are you a gp??0 -
I dont think you will get benefits to go to college. The OU have a range of courses that you can get some help in funding for if you are on a low income and can study in your own hours.
Given the sweeping changes the governemnt are trying to make and the push to get benefits claimants back to work it doesnt seem a good time to be choosing to go onto benefits. You could reduce your hours to find that the state wont top up your income. Given your reasons above to be honest it does seem a lifestyle choice to make to reduce hours - if it really is medical then there should be obvious medical benefits available for you to claim. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -

GPs do not sign people off for six months at a time without very good reason (and that reason would normally mean you would never work again). If you are capable of working, which by your own admission you are, you clearly do not meet this criteria.Gone ... or have I?0 -

If you would like some more information fine. Im currently in finacial dire straits and have numerous debts and im currently looking into declairing myself bankrupt. My partner and i have more outgoings a month than incoming and struggle to pay the rent each month. If i reduce my hours, yes my income will go down but i would do a college course that would mean i could apply for better paying jobs!
I have done an open university course already in my spare time but working full time and having a 3 yr old i struggled to get all the work done, yes im sure others found it easy to complete them but i didn't.0 -

If the Dr signs you off from work for 6 months then there is a chance that you will be dismissed on capability reasons and if you have to start a new job for the 16 hours then they will dismiss you without even having to go this route.
Edited: just seen you answer this in another post regarding OUThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
