delivery charges

Hi all, I'm new to e-bay so sorry if anything I ask sounds a stupid question or is not allowed.
My question is - Does anyone know of cheapest way to send heavy stuff? (not parcel force though) The consignments are usually 40 kilos or above and I'm finding the charge is more than the actual product. TNT seems best so far but I'm sure the delivery charge is putting most folk off. Any advice appreciated. Ta

It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better (John Ruskin - 19 ctry author, art critic & social reformer)

I asked a very similar question the other day and someone was kind enough to show me http://www.senditnow.com/
Although not sure how much use it's going to be as there's a limit of 30 kilos! (only £10.99)0 -
£30 for 50 kilos any good?
http://www.speedyparcel.com/
Would be cheaper to send as two seperate parcels using senditnow if possible.
Think speedyparcels uses parcelforce if that was a problem? OOps, think they use parceline now.0 -

Not sure if that'll work. Looks like £35 for 50 kilos so not that good anyway, says something about a minimum £20.50 charge per consignment which I don't understand either!0 -
i use parcels2go. they are pretty good.0

Prices are very similar to senditnow. £9.99 but only up to 25kg. Again, ok if you can split it in two.0 -
Can't seem to find any details from tnt as to their prices. The web page just keeps going back to their home page.
How much were TNT quoting you?0 -
Thanks for replies everyone, ill check them all out.
you have to talk to tnt sales dept to get accurate prices. Iv'e been quoted £15.35 + vat for a 38 kilo consignment (they only do next day service). Not sure yet what they are doing about charging me, they didn't ask many questions, just took my name and address, didn't want anything up front which I thought strange, like I said I'm new to this and this is my first enquiry. It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. If you are likely to be sending lots of these - 10 a week say - you should be able to negociate a much better rate with most carriers. Just seen your latest post - 15.35 does not seem too bad for that weight.0

£15.35 + VAT = ~ £18.00
Best I can do is speedyparcels charging £19.95 for the same thing so it looks like you win anyway!0 -
you could try these. I received a weight training bar through today that would cost easy 20+ by royal mail. but it cost less than 5 pounds postage
