Hi,
I am trying tofind an effective way of keeping warm this winter without it costing the earth, We live in a Grade II listed Building (apartment).
I heard that your not allowed to have gas heating in a listed building, does anyone know if this is correct?
I think this would be so much cheaper than the electric heating even if I have to hide it LOL
Advice is much appreciated

The portable lpg heaters really blast out the heat. However, these may not be suitable in your situation as they do cause a fair amount of condensation.0

Does grade two fall under english listed buildings as here in scotland my hoose is B listed, I assume the same as far as grading goes?
I can't see why your not allowed gas heating in an apartment, you should have a word with local planning department, tell them you require info re: listed building consent.

Yes, and the smell they put out is awful. They are great for a well ventilated workshop or garage whilst working in there but I'd never have another one in my house again. And the price of the bottles has rocketed over the last few years.0 -
It may be the running cost isn't any better than electricity.
How much is a Calor gas bottle and how many kg does it hold?
How much do you pay for your electricity (tier 2 normal day rate)?
http://www.calor.co.uk/faq/general.htm
What is the Calorific value of LPG?
Commercial Propane = 13.83 kWh/kg
Commercial Butane = 13.62 kWh/kg
So a 15kg bottle of Butane/Calor gas would give you 15 x 13.62 kwh of heat = 204 kwh.
If you pay £20 for a bottle that would be 20/204 £/kwh, so about 10p / kwh. Could be about the same as electricity.
