Best and worst travelodge in London

  • I prefer Covent Garden as we drive and the multi storey car park is right next door.

But Southwark is ok too and the rooms are bigger.

But to be honest, Travelodges are just a cheap pace to rest you head and get some shut eye. I want to be out and about and as long as the place is clean, then it is fine.

  • just got back from a 3 night stay at london euston
it was a bit noisy on the sat night but sun & mon were fine (with earplugs)
good location ( no need to go on underground at all with suitcases if you arrive at euston )
    friendly staff
    british museum within walking distance
    recommended

covent garden a lot noisier i would stay there again

southwark and london bridge also recommended

    Mistaken info!
It's not Gilwell it's Baden Powell House which is central London.
We think we're going to meet up and go to London Zoo so it's either going to be somewhere near there (although I think that's one of the pricier areas of London) or close to Euston if we get the train.
The other option is driving down and staying on the outskirts so any advice from seasoned travellers welcome. We will have a disabled person, not a wheelchair but limited mobility, and a 2 year old with us!

Euston is close to the Zoo

I've not stayed at this one myself, but I've seen a few comments on this board about it. I believe that it consists of two separate buildings, one considerably better that the other, hence the diversity of opinion about it. Apparently the trick is to request a family room in order to ensure that you are in the more modern of the two buildings.

I've stayed there a few times, both in its Travelodge and predecessor hotel incarnations. Both were fine but IIRC the new building, with the family and the meeting rooms is the less well prepared. Unless the old building has been run down since then?
  • i stayed in the newer of the covent garden buildings (next to the shaftesbury theatre WC2H 8DP) in the summer
we had a family room on the 10th floor
2 nights there was loud music ( i couldn't see the nightclub others have taked about)
one morning we were woken my a market and there was a lot of traffic noise
we always use earplugs but had the worst sleep ever in a travelodge.
    it wasnt very clean either
if you opened the windows the room smelt off wee (it came from the dustbins outside)
we had to buy a room freshner and keep the windows closed
so we wont stay there again.

Marylebone....Stayed there 30 September...2 miles out of London so for me it was a good location away from hustle and bustle of central Londan. I thought it was a bit tired. No hot water in sink ( actually no water !) Unlucky I think that all the electrics went in the morning so lots of complaints at reception. I couldnt have a shower. One lady was having a shower when everything went off! Good price £60 for two 1 night stay. Emailed the company when I got back and got a full refund for all the inconvenience so that was nice. Staff weren't English... and not very helpful ( although some English are not very helpful) I think I would stay there again but it wouldnt be my first choice

    Hi
We're going to London in February and have looked at the sale prices today, what I'd like after reading some threads here is some advice on the travelodges to avoid and the ones to look out for as the best quality.
Any advice would help as we just don't know where to start!
    Thanks

Great Thread!!:T I go to London often and will definately be taking all this advice in for future reference

In which case, go for the Euston Travelodge. It won't be fun being out at, say, Brent Cross Holiday Inn and trying to make your way in to Zone 1; anyway, it might not be that much cheaper on the outskirts and if there's plenty of you you could end up spending on Travel cards everything you save on the hotel.

Consider though that Travelodge prices don't include breakfast.

southwark one is good , also handy for the Tate Modern , London Eye , St Pauls etc

very near Southwark Tube and Waterloo Train station

loads of cafes in the area down The Cut

+1. Found it to be good. No opening windows, or radiators tho, everything is via noisy A/C.
  • Thank you for all the good advice.
We think we're going to go for Euston as long as we can get decent prices for the train!
If we have to drive I think we'll be staying on the outskirts as we just don't want to brave the London traffic plus there's parking charges and the congestion charge (no idea how that works!) so hoping we get the train offers!
